Nintendo To Announce Virtual Boy 2
SlappingOysters writes Nintendo has officially unveiled the development of its next home console, codenamed the NX. This article at finder puts forward the case that Nintendo will be stepping back into the virtual realty game with a follow-up to its ill-fated 1995 peripheral, the Virtual Boy. It would be going head-to-head with the Vive, Project Morpheus and the much-rumoured, not yet announced, Microsoft VR unit.
Here's hoping you don't have to sit the thing on a table, lean forward awkwardly and stare at 2 colors where you get nasty headaches after 15 minutes of gameplay. Also hoping for another tennis game!
It's so bad!
SJW's don't eliminate discrimination. They just expropriate it for themselves.
Is it April 1 already?
My BS meter is going off pretty hard on this one.
Youngsters will have never heard of a "Virtual Boy" and will be confused by the name while old fogies (like myself) will remember just how bad the Virtual Boy was and make sure to steer clear of the "Virtual Boy 2".

Actually no, they didn't announce a damn thing you completely inaccurate headline and summary. They very well might but that is just one article speculating at what they might announce based on what other companies are doing.
Shigeru Miyamoto on VR: " [virtual reality] is one person putting on some goggles and playing by themselves kind of over in a corner, or maybe they go into a separate room and they spend all their time alone playing in that virtual reality ... So from Nintendo’s perspective, there’s interest in the technology, but we think it might be better suited to some sort of attraction style of entertainment, say something at a video game arcade or things like that, rather than something that one person plays alone."
On the other hand Nintendo has spoken extensively about the desire for a unified architecture and a way to develop a single game that will be a satifying experience for both dedicated home and mobile video game players. I think the NX will be their first attempt at that instead of virtual reality. A single device that will replace both the 3DS and the WiiU.
I wholeheartedly attribute my horrible vision to the Virtual Boy when I was a kid. Twenty minutes playing that and your eyeballs bleed when you return to sunlight. Mario Tennis was fuckin' awesome, though.
Posting an article's baseless speculation about what an announcement means takes away all the fun of letting us baselessly speculate about what an announcement means.
The article is pure speculation, this story has no reason being here, and the title is clickbait.
Is this really what Slashdot is coming to? The linked post is purely speculation with no evidence other than what other companies are doing, which has never been a major motivator for Nintendo. The title presents it as fact. Come on guys, hold stuff to a higher standard than this garbage, don't turn into Buzzfeed or Gawker.
Could we be any more factually incorrect with the headline? Talk about clickbait
Reminds me of the speculation over what the Nintendo Revolution was going to be:

Yesterday it was Nintendo going mobile. But I find today's news to be even more exiting.
VR are *hot* this year. Still, this doesn't seem to translate into the game industry. It kinda fell like game controller for the PC ; a lot of game support it, but since it's not mandatory only a little portion of all the gamers will actually own one.
This news is very interesting. Basically Nintendo is using the VR tsunami hype to unveil the comeback of it's black sheep but very well known Virtual Boy as a star player and, honestly, I think they have a huge chance to succeed. The Wii success showed us how Nintendo can make a hype translate into sales for a new console and I'm sure the Virtual Boy 2 is going to be the most discussed VR among gamers for a few months.

I'd be really surprised if Nintendo names a VR headset after their failed 3D console.
http://www.eurogamer.net/artic... UPDATE: Here's Iwata's quote on the NX, translated officially by Nintendo: As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename "NX". It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year.
Also, Iwata said Nintendo's new membership service would play a key role in NX.
Nintendo, together with DeNA, will jointly develop a new membership service which encompasses the existing Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems, the new hardware system with a brand-new concept, NX, and smart devices and PCs, and Nintendo will be the primary party to operate this new membership service. Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses. This membership will form one of the core elements of the new Nintendo platform that I just mentioned.
Virtualboy was not a peripheral. It was a standalone gaming console, with dual screens built-in for 3-D display. You didn't even wear the thing. It sat on a table, and you put your face up to it.
This post is just embarrassing.
This is just some clickbait headline, the entire thing is speculation, apart from the fact that Nintendo announced a codename NX for their next hardware. You seriously think Nintendo would follow up with something called the "Virtual Boy 2" with the bad impression the first one left? The "Virtual Boy" name is worth nothing right now. They won't even bring its games to Virtual Console on 3DS even though that makes so much sense it's crazy.

"This article at finder puts forward the case that Nintendo will be stepping back into the virtual realty game ..."
I suppose property values are prohibitively expensive.
Lemmings are silly; dinosaurs are extinct.
"Virtual realty game?" What do you do, sell fake houses?
Had they said nothing up until the moment of an actual announcement, we'd all have laughed out loud (spelled out because many of us literally would) at ourselves for not seeing it coming.
Yeah, the first problem is that this is just baseless speculation.
The _second_ problem is that I made the same baseless speculation two days ago and no one cared then, so it's amusing that someone else got front page news for saying the same thing. I guess the problem is that I had my tongue in my cheek while these guys are (at least pretending to be) serious about it?

My BS meter is going off pretty hard on this one.
Any harder than it went off for the similar Nintendo On hoax?
It's more likely than you think.

To my 62 year old mom, LOL means lots of laughs.
Every mega corporation announcing a serious VR headset is good for two reasons. One, it devalues Oculus Rift's purchase by Facebook and anything that stops that project or loses Facebook money is very positive. They need to go out of business and soon. Second, it creates legitimate competition that will drive down prices. The initial prices for the Oculus put is straight on the Segway path. Now I might be able to get a good VR device for under the cost of a gaming console.
ROFLMAO!
Will I be able to use my old games on the new system?
I hope it is more comfortable to play.
Site i never heard of knows about next Nintendo console, right.
And they are wrong, because the home consoles nintendo make are excellent for multiplayer games (mario cart/party, even the new mario world etc). That wouldn't work so well with VR, which is more of a single player activity right now (unless you go online, but then you are still alone in your room).
On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
