"...people believe that using it allows them to track their spending more easily."
Not for me, it's so much easier to keep an eye on your spendings when you use your card. A quick look at the app or website and you have a nice list of what you were spending your money on. My bank even allows to link accounts to a type, so i can see in an instant how much this day/week/month i spend on bills, food, hobbies, etc.
Try that with cash, sure it is possible, keep the receipts (ugh) and note it all down in a spreadsheet in the evening or instantly on your phone. just extra hassle i just don't have the time for. Not to mention that you can never pay the exact amount of money, so you end up with a pocket full of coins, which you'll dump in the coin-jar at home. That money is basically lost because you don't really use it, except on some rare occasions you know you'll need to pay 'little money'. But all those coins add up, you'd be amazed how much money actually is in that jar (which would otherwise just be readily available on your bank account for you to pay with your card).
All of this despite the truly massive library of 'retro' games with no such shenanigans for pennies on the dollar.
hmm, you should check out those prices on retro games, they are certainly not pennies. unless you're talking about utter rubbish games... unless you go the emulator and downloading roms route.
are we really going to put our trust in HP written software? your only hope is that it is removable, as long as it's not something that is running on a chip like the T2 'security' cpu from Apple.
There are already standard bodies for the linux desktop, that's freedesktop.org
From their website:
"We also host discussion and development of specifications for interoperability. A full list is available at our specifications page. These specifications mostly cover low-level desktop issues, such as identifying file types, launching applications, and exchanging data between applications and desktops. They are often called 'XDG' specifications, as an acronym for the Cross-Desktop Group."
the big DE's all follow these specifications.
I found this from the summary rather funny;
"Linus Torvalds is tired of the fragmentation in the Linux desktop. In a recent [December 2018] TFiR interview with Swapnil Bhartiya, Torvalds said, "Chromebooks and Android are the path toward the desktop.""
Chromebooks & Android are possibly even more fragmented then KDE vs Gnome!
why not include office documents and pdf's as well? they've been a source of infections too. well, not much else is left except pure media (video/audi/pictures) files.
if you really need support for a linux kernel older than that (why?). you could hire a developer to maintain it for you, costing less then it costs to buy extended support from MS.
don't know about other EU countries, but how it works here is that your road-tax is tied to the emission your vehicle has. tesla would get more 'cash' by increased sales since their cars are cheaper to own (thus more interesting to buy).
"Most jails give family members a choice between using video terminals at the jail -- which are free -- or paying fees to make calls from home using a PC or mobile device."
even if you're there in person, you still need to use the video system, that's just plain mean.
"Perhaps the new phones HTC plans to launch in 2019 will ship with Android One, thus eliminating the need for its own stock apps altogether."
what does this have to do with Android One? These standard apps have been available for ever, just for some reason most get replaced by a worse version. i'd say the reason is they finally came to their senses that it's just not worth having to maintain these bunch of little apps yourself.
this is just ouragous to me; instead of investing €500m in developing a better engine, they just fool the system. ofcourse the system allows it, and they should really close this loophole. if they can't make their engines cleaner, well bad luck, plain and simple. perhaps they can buy engines from somebody who can actually get their act together to put in their cars, instead of these scandalous tactics. this is nothing new and is done all the time, it can't be more expensive then paying the fines (or €500m).
you can link this with that other/. post about why people don't switch to linux. decades upon decades have we seen posts on the internet of failing public displays with BSOD's, windows popups, reboot loops, safe boot menu etc. still for some reason people keep using windows...
interesting to read that cinema's aren't doing so bad as they constantly claim. i read here that; 'The theatrical and home entertainment sectors both grew strongly in 2018'
there is too much money involved in AAA games today to not manage the whole production to death. you can still enjoy making games, and even have a successful game, but then you should go the indie route. ofcourse, the chance that it will be able to provide you with a steady monthly income is very small.
to lose it. That's because your body creates fat cells when you gain weight but does not destroy them when you lose it, they just shrink.
not sure, do you have a source. i read a study once (sorry, couldn't find the source atm), but it said the body just has a fixed amount of fat cells, which expand/shrink depending. there was no creation of new fat cells going on.
If you eat "whole grains", the body just sees a bunch of sugar.
ofcourse, sugar is the bodies fuel & protiens are the building blocks. your brain and muscles run on sugar. people should stop their fear of sugar, it just depends on what type of sugar you take in.
"By teaching preschoolers about coding, we are giving them the opportunity to change the world."
only a very limit amount of programmers actually are/were able to change the world. besides you have the possibility to change the world in almost any profession you choose to do.
people don't really care and don't want to put in the effort of installing anything else on their pc.
it's not only with computers, but basically with everything. when they buy a car and it comes with a pos build-in radio, they will not bother replacing it with a better unit. a browser included with the OS may be the worst thing ever, but most people won't do the effort of installing a better one. changing lightbulbs with led lights might be better for power consumption & environment but most people won't change unless they are forced to do so, and the list goes on and on...
Windows makes a BFD of updating your computer or scanning for mal ware. Ironically the fact that updates are a big deal on Windows machines makes people aware of them. They are aware when one exists and if they haven't done it. This intrusiveness gives you the sense that as long as you stay updated Microsoft will keep your machine happy and healthy.
what i hear all the time is how much people are annoyed by this constant assault of (update) popups and reboots, now you are saying they actually want this?
i 'accidently' stumbled upon this porn is the most use excuse, nothing accidently about it.

are these real 450km or is that they wishful thinking again?
we all know VAG is a bit generous with numbers...
i would be surprised if NO open source software would have been used.

driving with earphones on, while nothing is playing is more distracting then...
listening to the car's stereo?
human monkeys?
you mean like the brain enhanced chinees monkeys? that's why they made them? my god...
