Pakistan Orders ISPs To Block Over 400k Porn Websites (independent.co.uk)

"The action follows a recent order passed down by the Supreme Court in Pakistan requiring the telecom sector to 'take remedial steps to quantify the nefarious phenomenon of obscenity and pornography that has an imminent role to corrupt and vitiate the youth of Pakistan.' According to the Express Tribune, just days after the ruling by the Supreme Court, the telecom sector regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, added it had provided internet service providers with a list of 429,343 domains to be blocked as it attempts to control the distribution of pornographic material.

What's the difference between Pakistani and Portuguese situation? I'll tell you: in Pakistan ISP's are forced to respect a Supreme Court ruling, here in Portugal ISP's are forced by bureaucrats to block dozens of "pirate" sites.

I know people are up in arms over censorship, but really all this will do is strengthen the options for bypassing it. Freedom needs exercise too. Somebody will set up bypass tools and make a bundle of money and at the same time make it that much harder for the next round of censorship attempts.

I was in China in 2013 and bored so I tried hitting my "favorite" porn site xvideos. Nope. Redtube. Nope either. Turns out the new TLDs helped me out because after all that effort blocking sites, porn.xxx "saved the day" :P
They should just ban the kids from going online. Then again, maybe everyone should need to pass a computer programming test and get a license just to be allowed on the internet at all :) That was virtually the case in the early 90s, oh the glory days!
