Some Bees Are Addicted to Caffeine (albanydailystar.com)

mdsolar shares a new article about plants which produce caffeine to attract bees and encourage repeat visits to help with their pollination. "Scientists at the University of Sussex said they thought the plants produce the caffeine in their nectar to fool bees into thinking it contains more sugar than it actually does," reports the Albany Daily Star. In addition, bees communicate by "dancing" for their colleagues, and the caffeinated bees danced faster, inadvertently directing the other bees to revisit those flowers, even after nectar had run dry. "If they just had one, three-hour exposure to the caffeinated nectar on the first day," one researcher said, "they would come back for many more days, and more often within each day."

Have you found a substitute? Do you even need one anymore?

I think that MANY people who experience some form of anxiety are exacerbating their problem with caffeine intake. Anxiety in humanity is normal. Heck, in moderation it's very helpful. Kind of a "ying/yang" thing. Unfortunately, when its "helped" along by caffeine (or anything by that matter) it can become a crux that dominates your thinking and your actions. I didn't go into it in the original posting, but the males (bizarrely enough, its only the males) in my family have always been driven by anxiety. Most decisions have been driven by anxiety. My Grandfather and and father's personality were both heavily influenced by anxiety and both suffered from it. I can see that now with the advantage of time observing them and myself.

And no, I have not found a substitute and I don't need one. My own personal pet theory is that people who are naturally sensitive to caffeine are so darn hyped up in general that they don't need caffeine to "do" that to them. So the addition of caffeine actually "over" doses them and they become hyper. And like I said before, caffeine for most people is fine and a relatively harmless "pick me up", so I'm really not trying to demonize it, just trying to make people aware of the problem for some people with caffeine.

And if your going to try life without caffeine and get off it, I can only share my experience in how to do that (take it for what it's worth, every one is different). First, slowly wean yourself off. You'll find that you can do this to a certain point. (I slowly reduced by caffeine intake from 3-4 bottles of Dr. Pepper per day to 1 bottle per day). Do it slowly. Chart your caffeine intake, and reduce it 20% per day...or 10%...or 5%....it doesn't really matter...just reduce it. And chart it. Chart it on a piece of paper or a white board. It's amazing how you can reduce something if you see how much of it your consuming with hard numbers. You'll find that you eventually get to an amount that you can't really reduce any more. For me, it was one 20 Oz. Diet Dr. Pepper per day. Now.....observe how you feel with that. After about a week.......go cold turkey. And see how you feel. And give yourself a week of going cold turkey and see how your feel.

Drink lots of water, your body wants to drink something and you need to give it something other than the drink that used to give it caffeine.

So I would recommend you try it. It's really quite amazing not living with constant anxiety and feeling as though your experiencing things like normal people do. Thank you for listening to my 2c.

Actually, I first had 3-4 20 oz bottles of Coke every day which were causing me so much anxiety that I was veering into "OCD" anxiety levels where I started doing everything on a strict routine so that I could actually get some things done in life. And then I switched to 3-4 20 oz bottles of Diet (please note the Diet) Coke which reduced some of the anxiety to such an extent that I started getting out of the "routines"....but still had lots of anxiety. Then one day they were out of Diet Coke and I tried a Diet Dr. Pepper because it was in machine. And I felt better with less anxiety.....but the anxiety was still there (small aside: they put SOMETHING in Diet Coke other than Caffeine to give you some type of stimulation. The difference between the Diet Coke and Dr. Pepper as far as making me Anxious was noticeable. I'm so sensitive to certain things it's like I'm a freaking anxiety canary). So to summarize: 3-4 20 Oz Cokes per day = Near OCD levels of anxiety and major routines to get through the day, 3-4 20 Oz Diet Cokes per day = Less routines (still some), still major anxiety, 3-4 20 Oz Diet Dr. Peppers per day = High anxiety, no routines, wondering what the hell is going on with my life, one 20 Oz Diet Dr. Pepper = Just anxious

Correct, and it's bizarre how nearly half of the Republicans in their primaries have voted for them. They just don't know enough to know the truth.

The Southern Strategy wasn't exactly about instructing the masses in the intricacies of strict constructionism and the Laffer Curve. The Republicans should change their symbol from the elephant to the pander bear.

Thus we get an endless series of science fair experiments in LEO.

Is this a good time to point out how much publicly funded research Musk et al are building on with their really adventurous plans for a launch vehicle?
