A New 'Quake' Episode Appears 20 Years Later (vice.com)
An anonymous reader quotes this report from Motherboard:
The months leading up to this year's phenomenal reboot of Doom were stuffed with all kinds of fun developments surrounding the original series, whether it was mods that let you play as Duke Nukem or whole new levels from famed designer John Romero. There's now a new Quake game in the works, and already it appears to be enjoying a similar renaissance. Yesterday MachineGames, the studio behind Wolfenstein: The New Order, released an entirely new episode for the original Quake in celebration of its 20-year anniversary, and you can play it entirely for free.
Isn't it convenient that a new Quake episode appears after the Brexit leave vote? I can't be the only one who noticed this.
While I praise their effort and the episode is fun to play and polished, this isn't news, because new maps and episodes are released every year. Check Quaddicted for examples. Quake is still very much alive.
More like Halo with demons and a terrible map editor. Doom was a serious disappointment for me. I used to love using stuff like DoomCAD to make levels and this new release was honestly kind of an insult. Fortunately Steam let me return it. Maybe they won't screw up the new Quake?
The one for the new episode is the same as for duke nukem
Is there a Hurd port?
Confucius say, "Find worm in apple - bad. Find half a worm - worse."
not the quake one. Which is confusing.
Is it just me, or is the 'new episode for the original Quake' link pointing to the same page as the 'play as Duke Nukem' link?

Classic DOOM and Quake have been kept alive all these years by fans through source ports, maps and other custom content. Playing classic DOOM has almost never been easier and certainly has never been easier to play in a Multiplayer setting.
It's very fortunate that early on, companies like iD had the foresight to encourage the mod community instead of hoarding their IP. Blizzard has been providing map editors since Warcraft 2 (I think Orcs and Humans had an even more basic one, I can't recall now) and certainly the power of the Warcraft 3 map editor enabled the creation of DOTA and extended the life of all their RTS games.
"Phenomenal reboot"
Doesn't apparently mean
"Re release of what's basically the exact same game for the 1990s prettified with a lot more triangles and even louder sound"?

In the quest to delay piracy, it's also killed modding.
