"If so, the marketing must be better than the Volt's. Otherwise, it won't matter how good the car is."
Tesla hasn't done any marketing besides just being an amazing car. And they are selling like hotcakes.
The only reason car manufacturers have to market their "next-gen" ICE cars is that with each passing year, the changes on new models are incremental at best. The Tesla Model S is a revolutionary car in every sense of the word and therefore required zero marketing for it to literally sell-out for months ahead of time.
I own a Tesla Model S and I've never read that they will offer hardware upgrade (besides, perhaps, the performance plus option package). Where did you read/hear this?
But the software upgrades on the Model S are AWESOME.
First of all, let me say that I think the car is worth it even at the $57,500 price point. Also, the $7,500 isn't Tesla's "fault", it's the government's for having created such a program. And it's debatable as to whether the program should exist or not.
And I'm not sure it's true that only people who care about faux green prestige will be interested in this car. I don't care if people think I'm green or not, but as a techno-geek, I love the idea of the Tesla and what the company stands for. I also appreciate Musk's philosophy that car technology always feels dated and it's time to bring it forward into the 21st century. Furthermore, although I can barely afford a car at this price point, if I had to compare to other cars at the same price, it would be a no-brainer for me.
To say that the car only appeals to rich faux environmentalists is a stretch methinks...
As far as I'm concerned, the Tesla S is a revolutionary vehicle that will set the bar for future electric vehicles. And I agree with Elon Musk that all future cars will be electrically powered. Tesla is proving that electric vehicles can 1) be practical, 2) have extended range, 3) not be exorbitantly expensive, 4) be friggin' sexy!!
This is only their second car and they are already hitting a home run. Imagine what the fourth and fifth generation of vehicles will be able to do...
I'm surprised more/.ers aren't impressed with this car... it's a geek's dream!
Cool! That sounds encouraging.:) If it becomes resolution independent then it gives the user more choice. I understand that they have to please the masses while it remains resolution dependent...
Are they EVER going to make Macs, which are supposedly the best graphics machines around, with decent resolutions? My Dell Inspiron has 1680x1050, now THAT'S useful!
You think you can complain to Microsoft and they will actually DO something about it? They haven't had a new browser in 5 years. What makes you think they'll listen to your complaints and make a move?
Mozilla is an open-source product with huge community support. You're MUCH more likely to get a change-request addressed or bug-report fixed in Firefox than you are with Internet Explorer.

Have you driven a Model S? Do that, and then come back here. You'll understand.

Now THAT is very cool!

Sorry, yeah, my 15" has that resolution. :)

I'm guessing that was a joke. :)
hehe

Aren't these stories supposed to be for *April* 1st? :)
Oops, that should be 1.8", not 1.5". :$
The iPod uses a 1.5" drive, so this isn't going to help iPod capacity unfortunately...
the limit of the human eye is 30fps was that a joke? :P
The ES300 is based on the Camry chassis, not the Corolla.
