Fake News Prompts Gunman To 'Self-Investigate' Pizza Parlor (arstechnica.com)
An anonymous reader quotes a report from Ars Technica: A rifle-wielding North Carolina man was arrested Sunday in Washington, DC for carrying his weapon into a pizzeria that sits at the center of the fake news conspiracy theory known as "Pizzagate," authorities said Monday. DC's Metropolitan Police Department said it had arrested 28-year-old Edgar Maddison Welch on allegations of assault with a dangerous weapon. "During a post arrest interview this evening, the suspect revealed that he came to the establishment to self-investigate 'Pizza Gate' (a fictitious online conspiracy theory," the agency said in a statement. "Pizzagate" concerns a baseless conspiracy theory about a secret pedophile group, the Comet Ping Pong restaurant, and Hillary Clinton's campaign chief, John Podesta. The Pizzagate conspiracy names Comet Ping Pong as the secret headquarters of a non-existent child sex-trafficking ring run by Clinton and members of her inner circle. James Alefantis, the restaurant's owner, said he has received hundreds of death threats. According to Buzzfeed, the Pizzagate theory is believed to have been fostered by a white supremacist's tweets, the 4chan message board, Reddit, Donald Trump supporters, and right-wing blogs. The day before Thanksgiving, Reddit banned a "Pizzagate" conspiracy board from the site because of a policy about posting personal information of others. Alefantis, the pizzeria's owner, told CNN, "What happened today demonstrates that promoting false and reckless conspiracy theories comes with consequences. I hope that those involved in fanning these flames will take a moment to contemplate what happened here today, and stop promoting these falsehoods right away."

It is simply the expected end result of GOP lead lies combined with their rabid insistence of weaponizing lunatics for poltical gain. One would be silly to think otherwise.

The pendulum was extremely far left for a very long time. People have to expect the same thing to occur in the opposite direction. Combine that fact with the fact that media in the US has been manipulating people for decades, so now that people see a glimpse of a different truth more questions should be expected.
Let us also be honest on what the Pizzagate starter as. It was due to some very cryptic emails from the Podesta dumps, not some wacko on Twitter. Again, we have a Federal Government and MSM not doing their respective jobs. People, like it or not, feel obligated to step in where our Government is failing.
This should all be expected, and the answer is not "ban speech" but FIX DISHONESTY IN GOVERNMENT AND MEDIA!

This is not a"right-wing" nutjob conspiracy that the mainstream media is falsely categorizing it as. Their attempts to debunk the results of this citizen investigation are laughable. They 1st article that ran a piece that claimed it was debunked was the New York Times, which did not even begin to respond to the damning evidence that has been uncovered. The mainstream media is lying to everyone and attempting to cover this up. Just go and read the Podesta wikileaks emails for yourselves. Podesta likes to play dominoes on pizza, likes to get a pizza "for an hour". Everyone needs to do the world a favor and dig into the evidence and make a determination for themselves, rather than taking the "fake news" mainstream media at face value. These are the same propaganda rags that said Hillary had a 98% chance to win.
Seriously. Every top rated comment is saying "nutjob" "conspiracy theory" "conspiracy theorist" "Fake News".
Stop and consider the evidence on a point by point basis. Then consider that Bill Clinton is a KNOWN pervert. Then consider former speaker of the house Hastert literally went to prison for pedophilia. Then watch all the videos of Biden being a creep. Then look at the digitized wanted posters for the abductors of Madeleine McCann. Then look at the artwork that the Podesta brothers have all over their house.
I mean, I don't believe every conspiracy theory. But the evidence here is frankly overwhelming that SOMETHING is fucked up, at least with the Podestas, and possibly with an incredibly large cross-section of Washington DC.
Then consider the motives of people who might have actionable blackmail evidence on all the most powerful members of congress/senate/executive.
It's AT LEAST worth looking into. Then once you look into it, it's hard not to think there's some there. But whatever, just keep watching your corporate television narratives that are obvious lies and fraud and call the rest of us crazy.
I hold very few opinions. I hold information based on observation and fact. If you wish to disagree, please use facts.
So, you come to Slashdot to get the meaty tech news. But when someone offers alternate news of a different type, you call it "fake" news.
