Afghan Girl Roboticists Denied US Visas (bbc.com)
Three anonymous readers share a similar report: An all-girl team of roboticists will watch their creations compete in a US competition via Skype after being denied visas to enter the country. President Trump recently ordered a ban on travel from six Muslim-majority countries, but Afghanistan was not included on the list. Teams from Iran, Sudan and Syria -- which are on the list -- did manage to enter the country. The six-member team watched their ball-sorting robot compete in Washington DC via a video link from their hometown of Herat, in western Afghanistan. "We still don't know the reason why we were not granted visas, because other countries participating in the competition have been given visas," Fatemah Qaderyan, 14, told Reuters.
it's too bad for these girls that they didn't get in.They could have sought asylum here, and it would have been a total win. They check all the right boxes: female, Muslim and STEM.
On a more serious note. I have a very sympathetic heart for females trapped in fundamentalist Islamic countries. They have an extremely difficult path in life to follow. I am surprised they were able to compete at all.
Taking guns away from the 99% gives the 1% 100% of the power.
And that is probably why they aren't being admitted to the US, because once here, they could likely find a way to legally stay.
The trend to always include feminine gender whenever some story is happening speaks to a much larger global issue. Egalitarians prefer non-gender biased news. Feminists are egalitarians. If you think you're a feminist but you have many views that exclude egalitarianism, then you are NOT a feminist.
That said, Trump's weird foreign policy news is not really something Slashdot should be covering. It's sorta interesting because these are robotics people caught up in the torrent but them being girls has nothing to do with the story, really.

They are around 14 years old and have no financial resources. They are going to cost tax payers many hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical and education costs each. Furthermore, they are unlikely to ever repay that investment over their lifetime. So, a bad deal.
