Instagram Hack Targets Celebrities (bbc.com)

Instagram has revealed a flaw in its systems revealed "a number of" stars' phone numbers and email addresses to cyber-attackers. From a report: The Facebook-owned social network has emailed verified members, usually prominent figures, to let them know. It said it believed "one or more" attackers had targeted high-profile stars to get their contact information. Instagram said passwords had not been stolen but warned users to watch for suspicious activity on their accounts. However, it did not say which accounts had been affected. The security breach was made possible due to a bug in the company's own software.

It's not that hard to avoid. Just use a virtual phone number. In fact if I were a celebrity I'd probably have several, to limit my exposure to any one breach.

Why do people keep trusting these damned apps and web sites? I'm sorry, but all of these services should be presumed to be grossly insecure and written by people more interested in the ad revenue than security.

Boo hoo, some celebrities who wanted to take pictures of their tits got hacked. Who fucking cares?

Until companies bear legal liability for their own security incompetence, these platforms will always get hacked. If you want to keep your private data private, stop fucking putting it into the cloud and trusting social media -- social media are just ad companies in the guise of a shiny bauble.

A bunch of celebrities, or a bunch of stupid teenagers ... none of them know enough about this kind of technology to understand what they're doing isn't safe. So it's arguably their own damned fault, and the fault of the people who make these things.

And as long as the EULA says "we bear no responsibility", it will keep happening. And I will continue to not have any sympathy for people who put their lives online to sites which time after time demonstrate they can't be trusted.

You want security? Stop using this shit.

If you were a celebrity you probably wouldn't be technically versed and probably wouldn't think like that. People that "think" or "do" rarely become celebrities.

Pay attention, this is about a password leak from Instagram and have nothing to do with nudes.

Probably the main reason to gain access to Instagram accounts is to expose nude pictures, sharing them with the world instead of just specific people (or nobody). Don't underestimate how many who hope for a Fappening 4.0
