Jordan Peele To Executive Produce CBS 'The Twilight Zone' Reboot (engadget.com)

A couple of weeks ago, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves revealed that the network was planning to reboot the classic fantasy science-fiction TV series "The Twilight Zone." Few details about the show were available at that time, but we have now learned that Jordan Peele, director of the mystery/thriller Get Out, will co-executive produce the show. Engadget reports: The show will be produced by CBS Television Studios, with Simon Kinberg, Marco Ramirez, Win Rosenfeld and Audrey Chon also executive producing. Peele, Kinberg and Ramirez will collaborate on the premiere episode. "Too many times this year it's felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can't think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences," Peele said in a statement.

    I always preferred The Outer Limits. Now with Dark Mirror, is Twilight Zone really relevant? It won't be the same without Rod Serling, anyway.

      Back in the mid-1980's, there was a Twilight Zone reboot that was actually quite good. Better than the original to my mind. It lasted two years, as is typical for intelligent shows. There was another edition in the early 2000's that was cheap horror and lasted only a couple of years because it was just lame.

      I suggest that you just wait for the new one to come out, give it 3 weeks to see how it plays out. Could be good. Could be lame. Won't know until you know.

      Assuming you mean Black Mirror, I would think that the Twilight Zone would entirely relevant for those of us who feel that Black Mirror is terrible. I'm a huge Twilight Zone fan, both the black and white original and the revival, as well as a huge Outer Limits fan, both the black and white original and the revival.
      In my opinion the three shows have their own style, the latter having an interweaving story within stories during it's revival, while Black Mirror is less 'Twilight Zone' and more 'Ham Fisted Juvenile Message' than it is enjoyable sci-fi. Don't get me wrong, there were a few episodes of Black Mirror that were actually brilliant from a sci-fi perspective but the majority of episodes are more about "The Message" than it is about sci-fi or being clever (like Twilight Zone).

      Intelligent shows last two years and lame cheap horror shows last only a couple years. Got it.

      Yeah, I was pretty shocked to find out just how bad Black Mirror really is, after all the hype. They take on the most obvious plot tropes and beat them into the ground. I tried to like it, but could not hack just how hack each episode was. I gave it a season and a half and kept thinking, "Maybe I was just in a bad mood and I'll try one more episode" and it always disappointed.

    Peele was announced as Producer back on November 2, and it was discussed extensively back then.
    Peele's background is mostly Sketch Comedy, which doesn't seem to be any kind of match, and that was discussed as well. "The Twilight Zone" was an Anthology Writer's Show.
    However, I'm willing to give it just a chance, because a Black-Oriented Science Fiction series hasn't been done before.
    We'll see.
    Or not.

      You obviously haven't seen the movie Get Out. The movie had a twilight-zone type of feel.

      Sketch comedy of a bizarre nature is more than qualified for the bizarre shit that happens in The Twilight Zone.
      The work he did on Key and Peele with some slight tweaks here and there would absolutely fit its sort of flow and storytelling.
      Hell, some of the themes and sketches could directly translate to a full episode in some instances.
      It'll be sad without the Key though.

      And as has been mentioned, his Get Out film seems to be getting a lot of praise.
      I haven't seen it yet myself.

    Oh, so the series is going to be a bunch of thinly veiled Trump-bashing episodes. As if THAT genre isn't being thoroughly covered at the moment. I'll say this, the amount of emotional pain being felt by people just because their favorite career politician didn't win one election is really something to see. All of these outbursts in public, agitated beyond belief, I would not have really believed it was possible, particularly among erudite people with advanced educational credentials. I was assured so often that temper tantrums like this were the mark of a low IQ or lack of education, by the same people who are now acting out.

    We already went through this, too: remember Chimpy McBu$hitler? King George Bush the Second, who was as bad as Hitler? Trump doesn't even compare, he just recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. WORST. HITLER. EVER.

      Your arguments is as silly as complaining that science-fiction movies have been done for decades and we should stop making new ones.

      I guess you could complain and say "damnit, this week's episode is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike last week's episode."

      In the case of Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits (and now Black Mirror too), this is different. Each episode has a different story, characters, etc. There is no connection between this new series, the previous one or even the one before that. What's interesting is the possible variations to the genre, as Black Mirror did with the technological component of the stories.

      They're not talking about doing remakes of the old episodes. This is a continuation of a genre of stories that have been done before and will probably be done again in the future.

      They'll rehash all of the classic episodes. Except instead of it using ham radios, televisions, and news papers, it'll cellular be phones, computers and 3d printers. The guy that flys his biplane forward in time from WWI to the 50's will now be in a WW2 Era fighter. The aliens will now be fancy cgi rather than a guy in a rubber suit, and a cgi Rod Sering will preach about the dangers of smoking. Wait, that last one would be pretty good, so it won't happen

    no mention about Black Mirror, but i suspect the success of that show also has something to do with the return (ofcourse, you don't mention the competition).
    i know BM and TZ are not the same, but a lot of similarities are there and is targets pretty much the same crowd.

      Yeah, Black Mirror is a lot more heavy handed and beats you over the head with it's messages compared to Twilight Zone and features "twists" that can be seen coming a mile away.

      It's a problem if 3% of the population is being portrayed as being 30% of the population.

      If stories, TV shows and movies had similar proportions to reality, people wouldn't complain (as much).

      Imagine a TV show set in Tokyo where 75% of the characters are white, 23% of the characters are black, 1% of the characters are jewish and the last 1% are asian - but half of those are from India.

      Oh, and 120% of the characters are gay just to piss of mathematicians.

      I don't care if ALL the different kinds of people are represented but people have to stop bitching if they feel like their category is being under-represented when the real numbers says otherwise. In my example, the numbers I gave make no sense whatsoever because at least 99% of the characters should be asian.

      Oh, you mean like white people are doing these days ?

      Star Trek Discovery was one of the new shows most condemned for being so called "feminist SJW crap". Now lets examine the REAL numbers.

      Women form about 50% of the world population;
      African americans form about 13% of the population of the US;
      Gays and lesbians form around 11-13% of the general population, depending on the sources;
      I don't know the exact number, but Asians form a large part of the world population.

      Now if you examine the dozen or so main characters of Star Trek Discovery so far, I counted ONE african american, ONE gay couple, ONE asian woman who didn't last long, a few aliens (portraid by white actors), and they pretty much nailed it on the male/female ratio.

      Where's the overrepresentation of certain categories in there ? If anything, white males are STILL over represented (albeit slightly).

      Could it be that YOU have been so conditionned to see white heterosexual males grossly over-represented in films and tv that you FEEL they are under-represented whenever you see a representation of races/gender/sexual orientation that more closely matches real numbers ?

      Star Trek Discovery is crap because it's just a weird science-fiction TV show that happens to have taken elements from Star Trek and pasted them on weird shit that never got mentioned once in ST:TNG, ST:DS9 or ST:Voyager.
