Microsoft Briefly Overtakes Apple as Most Valuable US Company (khaleejtimes.com)
Microsoft briefly overtook Apple as the world's most valuable listed company, fulfilling what it almost did eight years ago and adding a feather on the cap on CEO Satya Nadella. From a report: Redmond, Washington-headquartered Microsoft had a market cap of $753.34 billion, beating out the iPhone maker's $746.82 billion in intra-day trade on Friday at the Nasdaq in New York. Apple, however, regained control at the close. According to the Nasdaq website, Apple's market cap rose back up to $817.58 billion. Right behind it is Microsoft, which also increased to $791.19 billion. Tech companies have undergone some rough times recently. In particular, the so-called FAANG group -- Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google (Alphabet) -- had, as at November 20, combined market cap losses of over $1.02 trillion from their recent highs.

Microsoft's stock gains have been slower and much more consistent - and the volatility of the stock is also a lot lower. Of course, MSFT makes most of its revenue from business-based revenue streams which are much less affected by consumer confidence/consumer purchasing, so it should be less volatile. Long-term, MSFT and AMZN will be the most valuable tech companies because of their dominant positions that tend to be more independent of consumer trends.

Why do writers feel the need to vomit the city every company calls home? Readers of this site aren't likely to confuse Microsoft with Apple just because Redmond and Palo Alto aren't mentioned.

is "Their Precious" like some Apple customers are. I've never seen any lines for Microsoft Products, and I don't actually know anyone who's ever bought anything from a Microsoft store (except for Xbox stuff)
In terms of Market Valuations, who cares?
It's not like Wall Street has any actual idea of what something is worth, as long as it's worth little enough to buy, or enough extra to sell. It's like karma on social media sites.

Currently the FAANG group. Some time in the relatively near future it will be the ?AANG group, as FB goes the way of MySpace and other social networks before it. I would pin my money on companies that produce actual products and services.

None of those companies are valuable to me, or the vast majority of humanity. Let alone at such a mentally insane level.
To check if you do, just compare them to how much you have to work for that money. Actually work, I mean. Not make up imaginary money by valuing some stock. None of those leeches who value those companies like that, could ever afford any part of it, if they actually had to work for it.
They are considered quite harmful to humanity though. Given that they are intentionally trying to forever grow exponentially, consuming everything in their path, and make themselves more and more valuable, ... which means the part of the cake that is our own wealth/income, gets smaller and smaller.
So essentially, the headline of TFA states: You have been as poor as never before. (Compared to those rich few.)

You don't understand: The purpose of market valuation is entirely unrelated to actual worth. This was actually the basis for some research that two guys got the Nobel prize for.
Valuation is not something that is actually measured.
It's literally just what some guy(s) state[s]!
And surprise, surprise: It's based on if he's bound to make money with it going up or with it going down.

Oh, so the personal computer explosion of the 90's wasn't related to windows at all? Are you an idiot? Windows (an OS I hate) absolutely gets at least some credit.. Nobody is saying it's an awesome OS or that they invented anything.. But they wrapped it all together, sold it pre-loaded on PCs, and the rest is history.
When money is "created" ... (imaginary one, that is, but still) ... There is more total money in the world.
But still the same amount of work force. Getting the same total amount of money.
But the "wealthy", whose income does not come from work, will have a bigger purchase power, buying more.
This drives the prices up. which means the purchase power of the work force's money goes down. They effectively get less wealth for their work. Which means, they, relatively, are poorer, and absolutely, get poorer too, due to the inability to keep their standard of living.
Obviously you will completely ignore what I just said, just like the last time... not get it anyway, and even if you read it, *and* get it, you will mentally reject it and snap, as your own ego / self-confidence is clearly too unstable to handle you ever being wrong. And you gobble even more of that psychopath capitalism Kool-Aid, to cling to the beliefs that your self hangs on.
