When did greed stop being a bad thing?
These people are worth billions - how much do you really need 1,2,3,4 billion?
In a galaxy far far away the income tax was introduced solely because there were people that were super duper rich in comparison to the middle class and it was thought they could afford to pay a higher share.
Besides the greed microsoft and other tech companies complain (rightly so) about the state of education in this country. So they want better educated potential employees but don't want to pay for it - welcome to now - we'll lower taxes, cut the deficit, improve your education. It appears that those who run technology don't only believe technology can solve our problems but magic can work too?
While this might be a good idea on paper, I would say that its not going to happen. We have a lot of problems in this country that we have successfully ignored for a while and huge investments in the infrastructure might help us short term in terms of dealing with depression and long term for the future.
Instead of rails we should really be focusing on green technology and energy and hopefully we can then lead the world in something new again.
Rail has a lot of problems - but the main 2 are NIMByism and special interests in general. Here in Los Angeles they fought subways and put in rail lines in locations that on the surface don't make sense but if you put them in more trafficed areas it would have meant tearing down some rich peoples houses or disrupting a stores business for 18 months. Now in the long run that store might be doing more business and people would spent less wasted time sitting in traffic but short sighted NIMBism is a powerful force to be reckoned with and should not be underestimated.
You know I'm actually impressed by these comments - When I saw this I thought there would be a bunch of ignorant or smart ass remarks but a lot of these comments make solid arguements.
BTW I wonder what the increase in injuries will be by people who read that article and think they don't need to stretch anymore?
That's totally correct - when Social Security started the average age was like 67 so retirement at 65 was a little different. Since people live at least 10 years long on average now, raising the retirement age to 68 is totally reasonable and would save a ton of money.
Isn't it ironic that newspaper generated content is on the front page of yahoo (often) powers google news and is the source of a lot of content on the web but they make no money off it.
The problem with newspapers failing is how do we become informed? The above piece was pretty much illustrates the headline nature of news on the net and cable news has turned into a complete joke with almost no informative news coverage.
If newspapers fail and are replaced with headlines and fluff it only brings us closer to idiocracy.
I hate to do the you know whats wrong with America thing - but "I'm working my ass off to make sure my kids can go to the finest private non-religious schools available"
Why not work your ass off to help us have a government that produces the finest public schools available? We had great public schools before - so if its been before why can't we do it again. Giving up and just worrying about ourselves is only going to hasten the demise of this once great nation
to help retreive memories faster and more clearly. Of course the chip will transmit back personally unidentifable information regarding users likes, disklikes, thoughts and preferences so that google can deliver targeted advertising to the user all waking minutes of your users day.
Seriously when do people start to say maybe knowing everything about me "without personally identifying" me is too much? Even with the best of intentions, it can't be a good idea (at least safe) to allow a company to collect and store so much information about so many people. What amazes me if that so many people passively accept this. I guess image really is everything, if Microsoft were doing all of the same things google does, I don't think it would go over so smoothly.
