Nonsense, Taxation is taking from someone to give to someone else.
Society is "taking from someone and giving to someone else", too. Civilization is also "taking from someone and giving to someone else".
Actually, civilization is people VOLUNTARILY giving to somebody else, not having some large, third party come along and just take it. THAT IS taxation.
Go peddle your "free market" nonsense to someone more gullible.
No need to mention someone more gullible than yourself, I am not sure that person exists if you think a governmental entity takes money from you so it can help you spend it better on "civilization".
I was surprised a bit that Apple ships the Mac OS X with VIM installed. I had never even checked until I read this and sure enough there it is in all of its glory.
They might. When I buy a £100 pair of trail running shoes, they last until the sole wears through - but cheaper shoes I've had in the past have sometimes only lasted a few weeks. I'm sure this applies to more than just shoes. When you can afford quality products, you don't have to buy stuff so often. Being rich means you can buy stuff more often if you wish to of course, but then again, I'm sure some rich people are now rich because they have saved, then invested wisely.
Hey Mr. Runner man, did you hurt yourself with the stretch in logic? I am baffled by your reasoning.
If a person makes $30,000 they likely spend about every penny they make on shoes or whatever, To keep it simple, if the sales tax rate was 10% they would pay 3,000 in taxes. Now a rich person. They make $100,000 per year and spend 90% of it (and that is conservative). That means they pay $9,000 in taxes.
There is no way you as a poor runner can spend as much as the average rich person. No way.
And don't tell me that 'evolution is just a theory'. In science a theory describes a large number of observations with a simple, predictive model. Theories are falsifiable but not provable. Despite many attempts, evolution has not yet been scientifically falsified and it explains a multitude of observations really, really well - including this one.
That was interesting how you explained the concept of a theory, I had not thought of it that way. From the other side of this seemingly endless argument, has the theory God (or some other Intelligent design concept) created the world we live in been scientifically falsified? I am not trying to be a troll, just asking the question in the terms you used.
Replace "Obama" with "Bush" and it's "Bush Wants Broader Internet Wiretap Authority."
Never thought I would say this, but let's not insult Bush by comparing him to Obama. I have not seen anything in Obama as a president worth a nickel. At least Bush had convictions and lasted 8 years.
Not to be a troll, but by his own example doesn't Darwin show that a designer is needed in order to improve things when a system is present and interdependencies are real.
What are there, 250,000 apps in the app store for Apple devices, and you are going to boycott Apple over one unknown app's inability to get into the store?
The comparison was kind of silly, but one thing I did find interesting: The use of a "toolbar" on top of the 1979 graphics tablet (pg 5 in the article) - much like most paint programs and many other apps of the last 20+ years that have had a graphical interface. Somebody said graphical tablets were around long before 1979, did any use such a convention?
This is an incredibly insightful post. We have become a people that does not allow for risk anymore; insuring everything including a $9.99 purchase at Best Buy ("would you like the black tie protection with that generic mouse...?"), and then immediately seeking to blame somebody when a problem or unexpected issue occurs. For crying out loud, discovery by some form of trial and error is incredibly important. Stop with the eradication of risk.
Nice, we cannot seal our borders but we will seal the internet? I never thought I might be with the tea party, but son of gun their stand for personal freedom looks good right about now.
Great post. I get the feeling that these people are just old farts who like to complain just to remind themselves they are still alive. They have time to complain but not learn, how silly.
Thanks for reminding me it is F12. I just start frantically pressing Delete, F2, F12, and a bunch of other keys, hoping I hit the right one soon enough...I can never remember.
I am not sure why your comment was modded as flamebait, I was surprised at the original post's comments also. It is kind of silly to think that Linux with Wine is going to beat Redmond at anything, since they are always following Redmond. Microsoft, like Apple, etc. knows money is made by supporting new things, not old ones. They are perfectly happy to allow somebody else to support a VB4 app if need be, there is no money in that. The only hope there is that they show their customers they will support legacy capabilities for a reasonable period of time.

So my online user name may identify in multiple places just like my real name allows people to know who I am? Who would have imagined that?

The link in your sig was very enlightening. If I had mod points you get +6.
I wish I had mod points, that is the most coherent and direct post here. Thanks for that.

Great, now this can live on forever, much to the chagrin of his wife: http://geociti.es/Colosseum/2417/ryansteve.jpg
I am not sure how they missed the tax evasion scheme known as the Double Dutch Rudder...

Either nobody cares, or it must be a slow Slashdot day, this has been posted for 25 minutes and no comments?

I wish I had mod points, you nailed it.

What's next, the president of SCO saying he owns Unix on his MySpace page?

Maybe China asked the US Govt to install this as a final step before complete take over. They already own most of the US anyway.
For random web browsing on assorted sites, boot up from a Linux boot CD. Your entire OS will be in memory, nothing on your HD is touched.
Why not just use a virtual machine and not save changes? It would remove the issues around your local data, and be much faster without a reboot.
Great post. I get the feeling that these people are just old farts who like to complain just to remind themselves they are still alive. They have time to complain but not learn, how silly.

Right, and the software they always want is the latest version. How many people run Word 97 vs 2003 or 07, or even 10?

You can pick it up for around $300 new.
