Let's assume your statement that "people pulled this shit a lot less often back then" is more than just something pulled out of your ass. Basically, you're saying is that (a) you get to decide whether the theft is justified by looking at the thief for a split second down the barrel of your gun and (b) your big screen TV is worth a more than a human life. Your definition of civil society seems more in line with the code of Hammurabi than with modern, civilized systems of justice.

I enjoy skulking here because the community is damn witty and I am often entertained and informed by what I read, but the editing of stories for any basis in fact has gone from inept to transparent troll-baiting and flame-generating. We all know some of the editors are idiots, but, come on Taco, I know you can do better.

Yup. This is exactly why I quit playing any FPS online after Halo2 (and, I get p0wned). My two sons play on Xbox live quite a bit, but neither one engages in much of that bullsh*t behavior. It might be because they're mature enough to know it's stupid, but it also might be because I play games with them and will often kick back in the recliner to "veg out" and watch them play.

Take it from a lawyer in Missouri -- the parent post is correct. Federal and state court systems are separate. The U.S. District Courts are federal courts (as are the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals). The District Courts are the trial courts for the federal court system. Their terrories typically are all or part of the state where the court sits. Missouri has two U.S. District Courts -- the Eastern District (in Saint Louis) and the Western District (in Kansas City). All federal judges, including the U.S. District Court judges are appointed by the President of the United States and are not subject to retention votes. See http://www.uscourts.gov/index.html The State of Missouri has a Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals (in three districts, Eastern, Western, and Southern) and Circuit Courts (the trial courts); the judges of these courts are appointed by the Governor, and many are subject to retention votes under Missouri law. See http://www.courts.mo.gov/ The confusion is that there are several Limbaughs who are attorneys or judges in Missouri. The summary is wrong because it confuses the different Limbaughs who are judges in different courts.

Thanks! Here's the next step, you complainers: Get your lazy fingers moving and e-mail your representatives on these issues. The more people that make their views known, the better. Absolutely. I can attest to your statement from personal experience. I sued Wal-Mart on behalf of an employee for disability discrimination for some absolutely ridiculous behavior; it was one of the best cases of my career (even though it was only small money). The problem is that in our consumer-driven society, people only want the bottom dollar price and will not consider the other costs of buying at Wal-Mart. DON'T SHOP AT WAL-MART! They suck the life out of the communities they infest.
