I was wondering if the laptop might have had a webcam built into it but after reading your comment, I'm not sure I'd want to get a picture of the perp.
This highlights exactly whats wrong in the U.S. Japan gets faster and faster speeds, the U.S. gets slower and slower. In my area, Comcast is now offering a SLOWER speed for less money (but not much less). 640 Kbps in 2008? Come on! 1/10th the speed for 1/2 the price. We're getting robbed.
Chernobyl was 20 years ago. The technological advances we have made since then have been astounding. I feel that another go at nuclear at this time would be a great idea.
Not only have we learned from our past but we've also learned a great deal more.
Judgement itself is not sinful, Christ warns that if you judge someone, you'll get measure in the same manner. Its more of a very strong warning and less of a command.
For one who truly believes, they'll take it to heart. For someone who uses their belief for selfish motives, they'll abuse it.
(2) what about using vi (or any other pro editor)?
I doubt this would have very many applications for the general public however this could be VERY useful for people with a disability. I can imagine a quadriplegic (one that doesnt have total paralysis) might be able to find use for this.
I've always wondered why NASA doesn't take life to Mars and see what effects the planet has on it. Take bacteria, a small plant, I dont know, anything. Maybe if Mars never had life, we could bring life to it.
From TFA:
The Siafu concept notebook, designed for the blind by Jonathan Lucas, omits a display altogether. Images from applications and Web sites are converted into corresponding 3-D shapes on Siafu's surface. It can be used for reading a Braille newspaper, feeling the shape of someone's face..."
Think of the possibilities!
Oh how the Slashdot crowd would love to get their hands on one of these... literally
The church that I attend used to have a horrible sound system and a projector system like the ones you find in most schools (back in the early 90's). The sound system would cut out and have horrible feedback. The projector system was seriously extremely ghetto.
Upgrades were enormously expensive but local companies would give discounts for churches. You also don't want to invest money in something that you will have to replace a year down the road.
I don't deny that a lot of churches spend way too much money on things that could be deemed unnecessary however some of these purchases are needed or a nice touch. If you believe in God, its natural that you would want the building you worship him in to be decent. Some churches take it to the extreme.
Granted, there is too much emphasis these days on wowing the audience instead of teaching the truth but not all amenities are bad
You ever wonder if the NSA or CIA is partly behind this? How many backdoors are built into it for the to listen in. Is it open? Can I see? If not, not trustworthy

Come on, this is slashdot. Do we need to articles about how to waste even more time?

This must be the patent that Microsoft claims that GNU/Linux infringes upon!
The other ones include the power button and the space key.
Which others ones did I miss?

I can't prove it but I heard that The Planet was hosting an open tracker. We all heard what happened to them... http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/06/01/1715247
