Fuckin A.
"X" is a new religion is becoming a regular comparison on slashdot and it is a transparent attempt to sustain a wooly argument. Privacy is not the new religion. Scientology is a new religion. They may be a private religion which means they may possibly have something to lose if their secrets of enlightenment come to light. As I see it this chap from the article pre empted the FBI by making his life public, thereby removing secrets and anything to lose.
"By the way, I don't care how much someone loves their job. Anyone who stays after-hours and plays games or just hangs out is sad."
Just no.
What a sweeping generalisation. We pay call of duty 2 for about 45 minutes after work. Call it unwinding. It obviously not what you're used to. Call me sad but i enjoy the use of high end machines on a faster network with a high standard of competition. Its a social event for nerds and geeks. If we're sad, we were that way inclined way beforehand.
This doesn't mean i love my job. its a perk.
No problem, the thing is cds did cost more to produce initally, so the price hike was justified. Over time manufacturing costs lessened, the price however did not.
Don't get me wrong, I think the removal of DRM is indeed a good thing and also Im all for higher bitrates. One of the major problems I have with most music today is the life and soul has been compressed out of music. This change is for the best, and i bet some day we'll be listening to the highest quality of music on our 40terrabyte ipods that came free with breakfast cereal. But a price hike each step of the way... No thank you sir.
But that of course remains to be seen, so for the time being I look forward to finally using the itunes music store.
Do i expect tunes to be $0.99 in the future? Probably not, but i dont expect the rigid pricing structure to remain the same either. Different prices for different tunes.
Personally Id pay an arm and a leg for a good tune whatever the format. (someones elses limbs obviously)
Just wondering.. Is the price hike with higher bitrate a similiar justification to the older change in format from cassette tapes to cd. Didn't the record labels do that? Claiming its new technology! so it'll cost ya. But is it apple doing this now?
what i find funny and this is purely anecdotal, but in the town i live (here in ireland) there are more and more sex shops opening all the time. However our broadband infrastructure is a disaster, so you'd still be better off getting your sexual groceries the old fashioned way.
"His other points about the system are hit and miss. It was the musicians' machine of choice, true."
Y'know, it not that i really dispute this... but there was quite a large community of musicians around the amiga. My glorious days of MED! and well..
ok you are right..
and im too old to get all fanboyish about the Amiga.
( 'cept its waaaay better...)
ahh... Religion. Its a bit like the matrix trilogy really. Starts out well, but it just ends up being shit.
