If the waste can be used again eventually we will go back and mine our waste reserves, either that or we will start selling it to France or Japan to deal with. As costs of fuels go up, more fuels become feasible options. People are now looking at shaol oil for extraction which was thought worthless until recently.
If we store our nuclear "waste" long enough we will have the largest reserve of nuclear fuel on the planet. With a half life of 24000 years we have a little while to use it.
The Telcos are supposed to be a transport service. They are not supposed to care what is being transported (as such federal law forgives any illegal use by users). Now because they see all this money flowing and only a portion entering their coffers they are trying to put a dam to redirect the flow.
Both content providers and surfers PAY for access to the internet already. What telecoms are trying to do is hold providers hostage for ransom. Thier claim is they need to have someone else pay for the imporvements they should have been performing the last 20 years. Most Internet services I have used DO NOT provide the stated bandwidth I pay for all the time, I can reach it now and then but not very often. We all are overpaying for substandard service.
If ebay (or what ever sites you use) has to pay more for internet access then so do the rest of use because it's a service we use and they get all thier money from us.
I don't like the idea of government regulation getting in the mix either but they already are when dealing with the telcos so there you have it.
I think that's cool, the stupid firewall that comes with XP causes more problems than I can count AND it always turns itself back on! Something to turn it off and keep it off would actually be a plus.
I have 2 monitors and I absolutly love it. Copy/Paste actions or file moving and especially for debugging. Just run the App on one and the code on the other. Effectively I have a 35" screen. Now if they were both flat panels I'd be even happier.
To begin with Google is allowing exerpts from books to viewed, NOT the whole book. Teachers and others are allowed to make copies of parts of books for a class. The only difference is the person already owns an original copy. In reality Google is providing FREE advertisement for every single publication they have scanned in. Anyone will tell you advertisement = increase in sales. If your book gets increased sales then you are being paid from Google indirectly. If you do not, then either your work is poor or not enough people care about your information to make a difference (or they already own it). I think a large part of the fear for Publishers is similar to the RIAA, paridigm shift.
Many of the books from the libraries I am sure are out of print though not out of copyright.
The problem is the **AA's want EVERYTHING to be DRM'd. Many CD's are DRM'd, what we don't like is not that DRM is available, it is the UNavailablility of NON-DRM'd media. If it was an option to buy DRM or not, no one would have a problem. No one is trying to restrict your ability to buy specific music in whatever form you want, in actuality they are trying to enlarge your choices. BTW this has nothing to do with whether you buy you music in phyical media or digital only, DRM applies to both.
Vagas is pissed they weren't getting the money and lobbied congress, telling them all the tax dollars they were missing out on. There's no need for this bill other than to try and capture tax dollars here in the US.
Believeing it or saying it merely gives it more power. EVERY VOTE not cast at the ruling parties is a vote counted. It's the falicies of "My vote doesn't count" and "I have to vote for the Major canidate I dislike least or throw away my vote" that cause such apathy (or is apathy that causes thier proliferation?) in this country when it comes to voting. Multitudes around the world have died and are dieing for this right that many of us throw away. It's the crackpot's and extremists that are running our country because they CARE about whatever it is they care about.

As interesting as being able to flip back and observe an event agian and not just try to remember it, which I personaly would like to do for somethings in my life, I see the possibility of major problems, besides being able to use it to try to win an augument with someone it could be used as proof of your innocence of some crime, or used to convict you.
Would this fall under self incrimination or not?
Even more if anyone could be recording their entire life and you could be caught by anyone, whether they noticed you or not at the time, would this reduce people willnig to commit crimes? I mean if someone found out there was a crime committed in the park two weeks ago within an hour of being there, might they not go back to that day and watch the video to see if there is something or someone they weren't concious of at the time?
<paranoia>
What happens when it becomes so common it is wondered what you are doing that you don't record everything, what do you have to hide? Must be guilty of something! Why are there 3 hours missing here and 4 there?

The most fun I think would be to record my driving and catch all the jerks who don't know how to drive!!!
However in general I don't think I'd like my whole life recorded, it's along the lines "If you want to keep a secret DON'T tell ANYONE".
Britain == Island of Dr. Moroe?
