The economy under Clinton sucked. First of all, we were running a bugetary surplus, which means we were not increasing the national debt. Increasing the national debt is a good thing because that's usually accomplished by selling savings bonds, which people can buy as safe investment tools. Secondly, we had the lowest unemployment rate in 25 years. This means that I had to pay a premium for high quality American labor, thereby driving up my company's costs. To top it all off, a gallon of gas cost only 99 cents. How much margin is an American oil company supposed to be able to make on that? Bush, on the other hand, has helped curtail inflation by keeping stock market growth (DJIA) limited to an average of 2.8% per year over the past 6 years. In contrast, under Clinton, the Dow ran amok from roughly 3500 when he took office to approximately 10,600 when he left. That's an increase of almost 15% per year for eight years! By the time he got through with the economy, stocks were too expensive for the average person to buy!!
I did read it a few times, and I still think I understood him just fine. (And BTW, I think whoever modded my remark as flamebait was way out of line). If not, please feel free to explain it to me. It seems to me he was saying that it's counterproductive to apply the lable "addictive" to anything that isn't a pharmacological dependence. Tell me how I misinterpreted him.
Leave it to a liberal to take a scientific discussion and turn it into a mockery of conservative Christian beliefs. The meteorite is not inconsistent with the Creation Theory timeline.
stop using the SSN which used to say "not for identification purposes".
The "SSN" never said that. Ever.
My *card* says that. In other words, you can't walk into the DMV, say "My name is John Smith", and when they say "prove it", flash 'em your social security card. The card does not constitute a government-issued ID card, and is not to be used as such.
Banks and credit card companies are REQUIRED BY LAW to retain your social security number in order to do financial reporting (so the IRS can check and make sure you aren't spending more than your reported earnings).
Citation please. Banks need it to report how much interest they're paying you. If you don't want to give them your SSN, then they withhold 20% of the interest and you have to file a tax return to get it back.
Visa IS REQUIRED BY LAW to take your social security number,
Must be a PATRIOT ACT thing, in which case it's understandable, but I am skeptical that they were always required to do to.
Actually, it's even less than that. The "provider" isn't even sending you electrons in the first place. Given alternating current frequencies, typical currents, conductor valence electron densities, and conductor cross sections, the electron drift rates are so slow that none of the electrons go very far. All that happens is that their jiggling electrons cause your electrons to jiggle.
[...]is to get away with things that you don't want a judge knowing about.
And how is the NSA/CIA/military supposed to know if the judge can be trusted with this information in the first place? Being a judge doesn't mean you're entitled to know about things that anyone else would have to have a security clearance for.
Yeah, and people who drive behind me on the road benefit from my driving at normal speeds, so therefore I should be able to charge them for that 'service'?
Go for it. Put a sign on your car telling people to contribute to your paypal account or you'll continue driving at 5mph below the speed limit. The problem isn't that you're forbidden from doing so. The problem is that this "service" you're providing isn't valuable enough to generate revenue. People will either put up with it, or go around you.
I am posting the parent a second time (parent not my post) with easier to understand labels.
Bravo on the eight friggin karma points, BTW.
regardless of the fact that [AOL] doesn't actually provide any service to [YouTube].
That's where you're wrong. Just because there is not, as of yet, any contractural arrangement between AOL and YouTube, doesn't mean that AOL isn't providing them a service. If they weren't, YouTube wouldn't be concerned about what AOL does. The fact is that AOL is transferring packets on behalf of YouTube. Now, YouTube is certainly free to go to ComCast and complain about their packets being throttled, and if ComCast cares about its customers, it will go have a chat with AOL and tell them to cut the crap or they will simply sever connectivity between them. Then, when boatloads of AOL customers call up tech support and ask why they can't get to YouTube whereas all their RoadRunner friends have no problem getting YouTube, maybe AOL will rethink its policies.
Just let Adam Smith's invisible hand do its thing and everything will sort itself out.
it's about telephone companies charging more for things that don't cost them more purely because they can
That's the way things are *supposed* to work in a free market economy. It happens that way all the time. Do you think it costs Oracle more if someone runs their software on a 4-CPU machine than on a 2-CPU machine?
What is it with these neo-communists on/. who think that people shouldn't be allowed to pay for higher quality service if they want it? Do you guys picket the airlines for offerring first class and coach?

Rather, I think it is your usage, in which "alcohol addiction" is non-existant, that takes all of the relevance away from the term "addiction".
Hope this helps.

Then let the content providers flex their own muscles with the ISP.
You don't have to be a communist to object to these to effects.
No, but it helps.
2. I've never heard of Fark.com.
