Thank God, now I can read slashdot wherever I am, I miss getting my fix while driving to wrok/eating dinner/sitting on the toilet but now I can just use my palm! hmm, that actually sounds rather naughty, oh well;-)
Where did i say it was genetic? And please Identify where I said that ALL geeks provide emotional security. I hate it when people misconstrue me observing a trend for me propagating some sort of racial or other stereotype. If i said "most polar bears are white" People would be all over me about some obscure black polar bear that some naturalist saw. Thats why i said most people, not all, most, its a trend, if you go out and you survey people, most i.e. greater than 50% of americans dont know how long it takes the earth to circle the sun Link Here, does that mean you think that, or that even most slashdotters think that? no, its a generalisation, deal with it, that doesnt mean it isnt true.
Here's some real empirical evidence for you to consider: (1) all sorts of men get laid by all sorts of woman; (2) you'll die a virgin
Your argument is flawed and ultimately negates itself. the term emperical implies evidenced by past occurences, in other words that you have evidence that (1) I am a virgin and (2) that im dead. anything else would be at best circumstantial. Secondly your first point says that _all_ sorts of men get laid by _all_ sorts of women, implying that even I get laid and countering your second argument.
oh please forgive me o vengeful one, have I offended your delicate sensibilites with my manly posturing? Perhaps if you had a more valid critique of my arguments than "shut up" we might partake in a higher level discussion, but youve obviously proven that you are not capable of it(limited entirely to the poster i am replying to and not women in general)
My point is that women genrally chose men that give them security, whether that be emotional or physical or financial. As times change, men arent really needed to provide physical security, and with the advent of womens rights there is less of a need for financial security, therefore women now look for emotional security, as in your case, and your desire to not be taken for granted etc. in the past women have been willing to trade off emotional security for other forms, but today is different, and geeks can provide emotional security so womeen are attracted to them.
I believe Scott Adams sums up the answer to this question the best: Women want success. In the old days, when we were living in caves with 400 baud modems, The men that could best provide for women were big strapping bruets with huge bulging muscles who could club a wooly mamoth and drag it back to the cave with their bare hands. This was the measure of success. Then things got more advanced ant the 14400 bps modem was released, and the geeks did rejoyce for it was good. But women didnt care all that much, because by this time success was measured in the amount of flashy cars you had or the size of your junk bond portfolio. Buesnessmen and middle managers were rock solid kings of success. Now comes the T1 lines of the 21st century, and the measure of success is the number of lines of code you can write on a single shot of espresso. So women are increasingly attracted to the success of the lowly geeks who have millions of dollars in their stock portfolios.
Did we really need a GUI for DOS? Did we really need high-speed Internet access?
Did we really need fire? did we really need the wheel? I was happy back in the good old days with OOG the open source caveman hunting and gathering my food and eating it raw, man life was good. Why dont we start a nuclear war so we can go back to the good old days.
actually if you max out everything at the apple store it comes to a grand total of 17475 (only 419 a month for 72 months, act now, supplies are limited!) the specs: Dual 500mhz G4, 1.5GB ram, 216GB HD (3X 72 GB Ultra 160SCSI)Apple Cinema display (22" Flat Panel), Zip Drive, DVD-RAM drive, Ultra SCSI PCI card, 3x ATI RAGE 128 cards, 3 year apple service agreement. mmmmmmmm computer
But hey, who wants to vote for a party nobody else votes for.
Who wants to use an operating system nobody else uses, ill just go with windows because everyone else uses it, sure there are alternatives, but who wants to use them if nobody else does? BAAAAAAAAAAA! a wise man once said: "Dont blame me, I voted for Kodos"
yes but the point is if we ALL get up off our asses and voted, that Would make a difference. One person quitting their job because of unsafe working conditions doesnt make a difference, but everyone joining a union and then striking does, its all about numbers. I plan to hold up my end of the bargain, do you? if you dont vote, then it will be your fault that enough people arent voting, be a part of the solution not the problem.
Practically all the benefits (spinoffs and otherwise) you are talking about from the "Space Program" can come from unmanned exploration work as well.
No, this is wrong, when you have to build a closed loop life support system to keep people on mars alive for 6 months, you learn alot about the environment here on earth, you learn alot about using nature for waste management. When you see that people in space undegro the same degradation that older people do on earth, you learn from that, and you learn that maybe theres a way to stop that degradation. manned spaceflight is important for spinoffs, you dont need a life support system for a robot. Ultimately people want to explore space because they want to go there themselvees and thats a good enough reason for me.
Considering we still haven't a source of light that is even close to efficent,
LED's are up to 55% efficient in converting electricity into light, Article here 55% is pretty darn good considering that say the light bulb is 5% efficient or so.
Ever follow this to its logical conclusion: that your life is a sitcom?
Maybe this is why Every room ive ever been in only has 3 walls, with the space where the fourth wall would be replaced with a black void out of which laughter and applause occasionally emanates, and why everythying stops for a week after a half hour of normal life, or maybe not. STOP LAUGHING VOID!
? If I remember correctly Mars (and possibly the moon as well) have no magnetic fields to speak of.
youre right, neither the moon nor mars have any discernable magnetic field ( except for the Tycho Magnetic Anomoly, or TMA-1;-) so using this for orbiting those bodies is out of the question, but once your in LEO youre halfway to anywhere, and this system will be very handy for shuttling things around LEO and MEO
So would this work for geostationary orbits that spend 12 hours in the Earths shadow?
Geostationary orbit's do not spend 12 hrs in shadow, GEO is about 32000 km up ( I think), the earths radius is about 6000 km. If it takes 24 hours to orbit, then a GEO satellite is in shadow for about 1.4 hrs, and thats only if you orbit right through the whole shadow, you can orbit so that you pass around the shadow, just like the moon doesnt get eclipsed by the earth every month. Everyone also forgets that when you generate power, your orbit decays, and eventually you burn up, tethers are not viable for long term power generation, only soalr and nuclear are, but tethers work very well for changing altitude once in orbit.

avtually i included airport, i just didnt say it.

Thats pretty irrelevant, since if all the ISP's in the US were to be shut down then none of those sites would be even *ON* the net to begin with

You must sit at the white's only lunch counter, none o those dang negroes sitting at your table, who cares if its wrong, its the LAW.
