Your beliefs are skewed. Greed fuels people to succeed. More money equates to happier life. People will inherently rip others off to make a quick buck. People rape the land and environment to get rich.
I disagree. A company who has $150 million to invest in their product in such a manner that the competition is left in the cold seems like prudent business sense. I noticed you think Blu-Ray is better. Out of the two formats, Blu-Ray has the most flaws. It's a Sony product, and their flagship product for all-in-one entertainment, the PS3 still has playback issues with Blu-Ray disks. Where is the 720p? What does it say, when the product with the 'superior technology' needs multiple firmware updates to just be functional?
HD-DVD will win, not because of a better product, but because of better marketting.
Oh yeah, just so you know, BETA-MAX was the superior product, but the porn industry chose VHS for the cheaper costs involved in making their goods. (Cameras, and playback machines were cheaper as VHS.)
Everytime I see things like this, I laugh. I remember pouring through the encyclopedias for elementary school projects. There was no internet and the library was your number one resource centre. It is good to see how Wikipedia can actually do some good here. The one-upmanship that is ongoing, (to be a poster to first post on a topic, or to correct a mistake in a topic) gives some people a great sense of accomplishment, and though they aren't paid to do it, they can produce some real good material.
Your disclaimer nullifies the rest of your post. Your original post harped on the fact the article cites that installing Windows was the most difficult part of the process. Your post gives an air of surprise. How is it surprising when enterprising individuals do what they can to cut costs? Your other points may possess a certain validity, however, bringing up the Windows issue as your main gripe weakens your other points.
I do like how you've overcompensated for your Net envy by blurting out a 'very' braggish description of your so-called net connection.
I find it fascinating how people, such as yourself, can bash something new and innovative when they use an off-the-wall method of displaying their innovation. Tell us, how have you contributed to bringing a faster, more reliable internet?
Out of the box PCs come with pre-installed software, if you're buying from the big box stores, or major computer companies. The smaller shops will build a machine for $x. If you want the OS installed, it costs $x plus $software cost plus $install fee. Just because you've never built your own new computer, or bought a barebones box, does not make it unlikely to happen in the real world.
I think someone's got network envy.
spam
n. Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail.
tr.v. spammed, spamming, spams
1. To send unsolicited e-mail to.
2. To send (a message) indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups.
From http://www.dictionary.com/
If people opt-in, it's not spam. These 50,000 members asked to be on the list for hs newsletter.
If he was trying to sell those 50,000 members viagra, or another unreated product, yes, he would be a spammer.
Please understand and comprehend the meanings of words before you speak again.
Rather than charging to receive the email, shouldn't ISPs be looking at a charge per email sent? If t cost 1/4 penny for me to spam 100,000 people, that's $250 per mailing, not a lot, but when you consider the bigger spammers have lists that top a million people, and if they send out 10 spams each day to each person, that's a lot of coin, and most spam houses would be bankrupt in a matter of months.
With this kind of system, it would be easy for me, joe average user to contact an ISP that sent me spam. It would be verified because it was paid for. In the ISP TOS, Spam could effectively be dealt with by saying "Spamming will get you booted." Who wants to pay to get booted from their net access? We'd be rid of email spammers quickly, but then they will just hit the forums, and myspace pages to spam us again. The difference is, it takes more time and effort to forum spam.
The only problem is logistics. How do you get every ISP to charge for sending, (not receiving) email.
Tell me why American Government "decides" to change DST and the rest of the world must follow suit? This sn't a matter for the U.S. Government to handle as the effects are felt worldwide. The U.N. should have made the final decision on this. At least they would be doing something productive.
Even my 8-year old knows the dangers of water intoxication.
The fact that she didn't know is irrelavant. The fact an entire crew for a broadcast radio program didn't know is fully relevant. Any lawsuit derived from this act of stupdity is just, MHO. The general population can hurt themselves, it's their business, but this irresponsible behaviour by rado celebrities only strengthens my belief that a socety that looks at celebrties as all-knowing or wise, or above the masses is flawed from the foundation.
We all get what we deserve. Darwin Award material at its best.
We all need to plant a tree, and getting back to home gardening can't hurt either. If you're digging in the dirt, you're not driving that SUV, suckng back bottled water, tossng the empty bottle out at the side of the highway.
We're all guilty of being part of the problem. Why not all be part of a solution.
Oh yes, I understand that a few trees and plants do little or nothing for the environment, but maybe it will gve appretiation to the environment to all us idiots.
I am reminded of my own childhood, and how people used to say that video games will rot your brain faster than the TV. (Atari 2600 era) and sitting too close to the TV will ruin your eyes, oh and don't forget, Dungeons and Dragons players worship the devil. I lived in a very restrictive household, where televison wasn't allowed during the week, let alone the Atari 2600. I remember rebelling aganst those rules, and it ended badly.
That being said, these studies are subjective at best. I would be more interested in knowing who was signing the checks for these researchers. To be sure, it isn't Atari or Ubisoft.
It isn't these people's responsibility, duty, or right to tell people how to raise their kids. When children do poorly in school, the average parent will blame TV, video games, their child's friends, etc., but the blame lies squarely on the shouders of the parents.
I am a parent of 2, and my eldest loves to game with his old man, more than he likes to game on his own. His mother and I instituted a no video games until homework is done, and yes, I do take the time to check it over, (mostly to ensure completion.) These same rules will be implemented with our other child as well.
I think it's about time for this society to stand up and take responsibility, rather than cast blame. Take care of your kids, and they will succeed. Ignore them and they will fail everytime.
Print advertisment. Sorry for not making the distinction. I do own a T.V. I don't do cable. t's for gaming, exclusively. But seriously, you compare RTS games to reality? That truly s sad. Games are made for entertainment.
I never get to post anything, and i really didnt like how you made people like me look bad.
Whine whine whine.
I Fully agree with how you feel about renewable resources being critical to our future. But doing the "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" thing makes people like me look irrational and emotional, when really, were the ones spending the time reading all the facts, being rational, taking the time to understand the consequences of our actions, and trying to make a difference. And when people see things like "THINK OF... " they stop listening to us. We need to present ourselves Calmly, Rationally and Professionally if anyones gonna ever listen to us. They need to see our point of view as being the most rational and logical.
More whine (me me me...) Quite frankly, I could care less how you look. This isn't about how you look. I didn't do a "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" I said in 100 years, giving a difinitve timeline, rather than, as you say, think of the children. In 100 years, assuming you had a child today, your grandchild would be in their late 50's, assuming you had a child at 20sh, and in turn they had a child at 20ish, so really, when you say grandchild, it may not necessarly mean child. This is all moot. Besides, if I'm making you look bad, what does this say about you?
Statistically, by percentage, yes. But I, and the people i associate with are not in that category. I am quite active in many.. enviromentally geeky things.
This just makes me laugh. Not that I actually care, but how on earth are other slashdotters supposed to know this, when, as you put it before, I never get to post anything... To me, you're worse than the apathetic masses. You sit on a holier than thou pedestal, proclaiming your superiority over everyone else, but what makes you superior to us all? So you buy a little organic groceries (yuppie) and bike to work. How many kms is it one way? Chances are you live within close proximity to work. You work in one of the most polluting industries on the planet, and yes, you could say writing software has nothing to do with computer manufacturing, just like glass making has nothing to do with buildng automobiles. You actually sound like more of a problem, than a soluton provider. You make environmentalism sound like a trendy fad.
I've never made these claims, and I don't live close to work, and yes I drive to work, most days, however, I carpool. My car is a 4-cylinder and I mantain it myself. I'm no environmental warrior, but either are you.
Thank you so much for your 'on-the-fence" attitude. It's the lack of passion for renewables that keeps them out of reach for the majorities. Your lack of passion isn't surprising. Let me guess, you are a single, late 20's male, with either, lttle n the way of responsiblties, or none at all. This s the demographc that can do the most good, however, it is also the demographc that is the most apathetic. Thanks for being a trackable statistic. So instead of slamming someone's point of view, you should have stayed with your inital idea to say nothng.
As an aside, has anyone n Canada seen the Canadan Tire advertisments for the "Complete" Get yourself off the grid setups? They advertise the wind turbine, inverter/power conditioner, as well as a small battery pack for $2500.00 CAD. The specs aren't clear, and it's far from a complete system, But it is a step in the right direction. It also appears to be scalable.
Another point to make with pre-fab solutions is that not all products are equal, and comparison of all specifications may take an engineering degree. In essence, don't buy the cheapest package, unless it's what you need.
That is the sort of attitude that extingushes the renewable energy movement. Thank you for your demonstration. I agree expense is a factor, however, in 100 years, your grandkids will curse your mantra "not economical for Joe Average." as their skn cancers flare up, and lung disease eats away at them.
Your beliefs are skewed. Greed fuels people to succeed. More money equates to happier life. People will inherently rip others off to make a quick buck. People rape the land and environment to get rich.

and in another 10 years, the modders will be trying to make the lovely-coloured machines of the future look like my old Turbo XT.
Can I harvest their physiology for Fuel Cells?
