  1. Re:fully agree on Cathy Rogers Responds Without Crashing · · Score: 1

Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Challenge has been filmed in both the UK and the US.

I'm using the TLC season numbers for the descriptions.

Seasons 1 to 3 were UK Scrapheap Challenge shows that were retitled Junkyard Wars in the US. Cathy stepped in front of the camera after the first season. (Hosts: Cathy Rogers and Robert Llewellyn)

Season 4 was the first true Junkyard Wars season. The teams were from the US, but I don't remember where it was filmed. (Hosts: Cathy and George Gray)

Season 5 (US) Filmed in California. (Hosts: Cathy and Tyler Harcott)

Junkyard Mega-Wars was a one-shot, two-hour, three team battle. (Hosts: Cathy, Robert and Tyler)

TLC's site gets very confused for season six and it combines two sets of shows into one season.

Season 6a (US) Filmed in California with US teams. (Hosts: Cathy and Tyler)

Season 6b (UK) Filmed in California with UK teams. (Hosts: Cathy and Robert)

Season 7 (US) Filmed in California. Most of the challenges are US versions of the UK 6b season. (Hosts: Cathy and Tyler)

Season 8 (US) Still in the San Fernando Valley, but Cathy's run off to Full Metal Challenge. (Hosts: Karyn Bryant and Tyler)

Season 9 (UK) Back to the UK. Scrapheap Challenge has a new UK scrapheap set and a new host. (Hosts: Lisa Rogers and Robert)

Sen. Leahy (D-VT) and Sen. Levin (D-MI) are the only ones asking for restraint and thought before bulling forward with this amendment to the Commerce, State and Justice appropriations bill (which is sure to pass).

EFF is so concerned about not spamming its members that they often miss sending out notices about events. The EFFector is the only ongoing email they send to members. Unless an event happens to be announced in an issue of the EFFector I end up finding out about EFF activities from Slashdot or some other media source.

People really do prefer to buy goods from California when they live in New York City.

In the US there are tax advantages to buying goods from other states. Companies are not required to charge sales tax on a transaction unless they have a physical presence in the customers home state. (Users are supposed to remit the tax on their own, but there is no enforcement of this.)

For example, Amazon.com is based in Washington and most US residents avoid sales tax on purchases from Amazon.

  5. Re:Possibly sane on Whistler MAY Refuse To Run All Unsigned Code UPDATED · · Score: 1
I'm guessing that you didn't read the article. Application developers do not send their code to MS.

    1. MS does NOT have anything to do with signing a random application. You purchase that service from Verisign (for instance). MS will not be anywhere near your code unless you are a device driver developer.

    2. MS does validate device drivers since they have the ability to blue screen or otherwise trash the system. Device driver developers are the only group that actually has to submit their program to MS. It's not clear whether they need to submit the source or just the compiled code.

    3. This is an option which would likely only be used by big corp IT departments who already try to lock down their systems.

Having MS check the device drivers is something that can only help the stability of Win2k systems. If they had been doing that for NT4 I would have seen far fewer BSODs.

I doubt any developer will use the option to only allow signed executables on his machines, but I expect that many IT shops will.

Umm, what laws are you referring to in the US? As a life-long west coast resident we've always had to deal with this issue.

The east coast polls close 3 hours before ours and the national news organizations report the results as they come out.

Various groups politely ask the networks not to forecast who has won before the west coast polls close, but they are not legally prevented from doing so.

I didn't bother to read Valenti's deposition yesterday because I was too busy laughing at the judge's description of this a "bass tournament."
