This contradicts The Book of Moron, therefore it must be false. If you're making a reference to the Book of Mormon, I feel that I must contradict you. There is nothing in the book of Mormon that indicates, one way or the other, the existence of dinosaurs. In addition, the book of mormon starts (chronologically speaking) around 600 BC, which is well after the time of dinosaurs. Check your facts before you post, anonymous coward!

Well, I did a quick google search, and here's what I found. It would appear that cell phones and other wireless devices can cause issues with the GPS systems used in planes, which are critical for landing the aircraft. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but when I get on a plane I want to know that when I get off the plane, it won't be in a farmer's field or an ocean.

Does this really come as a surprise to anyone? I mean, we've known for years that you shouldn't use wireless devices on planes, that's why they don't let you use cell phones while on the plane. This is just the logical extension. As we see an increase in the number of wireless devices available to the public, I am sure that we will see an increase in the number of devices that are banned on aircrafts. The only thing that bothers me is that I'm not allowed to carry more than one lighter on a plane...what if my lighter runs out? Then what will I do?

  7. I think I know why... on PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 Delayed · · Score: 0, Troll

Did anyone stop to think that the reason they have delayed the release of the PS3 version of the game is that nobody owns a PS3? It's the lowest selling system in the current generation, eclipsed by both the XBOX 360 and the Wii. The primary reason for this is that there is such a high price tag. I think that Sony made a mistake when they decided to go with such high-end hardware for their console. For the price of a PS3, I could buy both a 360 and a Wii. So, would I buy one console, and limit myself to the expensive games released for said console, or would I prefer to buy two consoles, opening up the opportunity to play a wider variety of games with the same quality as that of the more expensive alternative? I think the answer is obvious.

  8. Re:Yeah, right on Microsoft Marketing to OS Pirates, Just Agree to Audits! · · Score: 5, Interesting

I feel that it needs to be pointed out that this program targets business customers. Microsoft isn't going to waste their resources on the average home user who is running a pirated copy of XP Pro (probably after a system wipe to get rid of Vista or XP Home!). This does make some amount of sense in that context. The majority of Microsoft's revenue comes from OEM installations (which we usually don't get much of a choice in anyhow), and from business customers who order thousands of licenses. As a former Microsoft OEM vendor, I have seen the evolution of their policies from the early days of Windows 95 and upwards, and let me tell you - this makes more sense than their requirement for Office 97 SBE OEM to only be installed on an OEM installation of Windows 95 or 98!

With regards to the audits, there are many software solutions for audits of software, and Microsoft keeps a database of all registered licenses (I've seen this database, a friend of mine was a manager at a call center handling Microsoft activations calls), so it would be easy for Microsoft to run an audit of installed software and compare it with their database of registered software. If they notice any discrepancies, they could then conduct further investigation into the cause. Granted, it would be a lot of work on their part to conduct a more in-depth audit, but it would, invariably, result in revenue for Microsoft, so it would be worth-while for them.

If you really want to get into it, the ancient Sumerians were practicing sciences long before Islam, Christianity, and any other religious group was recognized. It stands to reason that we need to look back at the Sumerians (who, it is theorized, used more than the 10% of our brains that we use today, via chemical enhancements) for the true origins of science. The Sumerians were even more scientifically advanced than most of the world today. I have a great deal of respect for the scientific knowledge contributed by the various groups throughout history. That being said, we need to look at the fact that the Germans, during World War II, performed experiments to help them understand medical science that the modern world considers to be crimes against humanity (and I'm not saying that they weren't, by any means!), but we reject the discoveries made because of the circumstances they were made under. A true scientific approach would be to take all of the information available to us and make decisions based on that. Instead we live in a world that picks and chooses which parts of science we want to recognize because of certain geographic or religious stereotypes and prejudices.

I personally use the Skype Out service. I have one contact in Skype that is a Skype user, and he uses it for work (that'd be my father). I paid $17.50 CAD for a year of unlimited long distance, and I tell everyone what a great deal it is and how they should sign up for the service. As of yet, not a single person I've told about Skype has even downloaded it, let alone used the service. Perhaps people are just afraid to try something new?

That said, there is one thing I have noticed. I get great call quality with Skype when I call my parents in Ottawa, or my friends nearby, but when I call my in-laws (up in the Northwest Territories), I have anywhere from 3-10 seconds lag, and the quality of service is poor. It would seem that the quality of service is limited by the available bandwidth - they just got 768K 'high speed' Internet there a few months ago! After all that, I plan to continue to use Skype Out, and when they finally start offering more Canadian phone numbers, I may even consider using Skype In.
