  4. Not ready for grandpa on How Can We Convert the US to the Metric System? · · Score: 0

As far as I'm concerned the SI units are taught in US school. In every science and math class from physics to algebra, there's a section dedicated SI units. Or at least it was that way when I went to high school. The problem with converting an entire country is convincing my grandfather that 100 ounces are 2.8 Kg which is also 2.830e3 grams.

I have a 15.4" laptop with a 1680x1050 resolution, I have no problems reading anything. Graphics actually look better in the laptop than in my 22" desktop monitor. You might want to drop by your local optometrist when you get a chance.

  6. Burnt pockets on Six Laptops That Don't Burn · · Score: 0

Those laptops might not blow up, but I'm pretty sure they'll burn a hole in your pocket. The high performance ones (core 2 duos, 2 gigs RAM, etc) range from $2,100 - $3,000. I can get a dell with similar specs for $1,600 and 2 years of free repairs. Sorry but I'm taking my chances with the C4 battery laptops.

  8. Obligatory Bad Karma on More Voting Shenanigans in Florida · · Score: 0

The guy was going to vote democrat, how did you expect him to operate a voting machine? Sarcasm aside, Florida's news have been slow lately, the press has nothing to bitch about besides the Miami Heats getting their rear end kicked. I guess that under those circumstances, some moron having problems with a voting machine qualifies as news, or better yet, as a republican conspiracy.

  9. It doesn't mean anything. on Pete Ashdown on his Run at the Hill · · Score: 0

The majority of the U.S population don't know what DMCA stands for, let alone the folks over at Utah. The fact that the majority of citizens in Utah aren't interested in a geek representing them doesn't make them any more dumb. Slashdotters tend to associate technology with intelligence way too often, one thing doesn't necessarily go with the other. My calc professor was a genius, yet he could hardly turn on a computer.

  10. What's the problem? on YouTube No Friend of Copyright Violators · · Score: 1, Insightful

The terms of agreement clearly state that users are not allowed to post copyrighted material. The bootlegging analogy is not really valid here because youtube "does not allow" the material. Once they get complaints they can always blame it on terms of agreement violations and turn over the IP and ISP of the violator to the copyright infringement prosecutors. If the problem is serious your ISP (personal experience here)can suspened your service, hand over your records to the agencies with a possible fine. I also doubt that the avarage youtube user knows what a proxy is.

There are many games that improve your teamwork and leadership skills. Just like there are many solo sports which don't enhance those skills. I guess the article used "forward thinking" as a synonym of open mindness.
