"Socialising New Yorkers trudge to work on sidewalks and subways like an army of drones, appearing to talk to friends and collegues and swaying to seemingly loud voices. 'I'm not trying to intrude on that,' Kruger said. 'But what's happening is when they're listening to their friend or wife or boyfriend or child, they're walking into speeding buses and moving automobiles. It's becoming a nationwide problem."
Yes, people not paying attention in traffic IS a problem. The other day i was standing behind two women involved in a intense conversation at a street crossing while waiting for a green light. A young man decided he didn't want to wait so he crossed between cars. The two women noticed the movement and started walking, but with a delay of a few seconds... and almost got hit by a car... No video game, no iPod in sight, only people being careless... What should be banned in that situation?
Come on! Accidents happen, politicians should not try to "sell" security for something they simply cannot deliver.
I got my adblocker for this very reason! The ads slow down page loading because often ad sites are overloaded. Sometimes pages fail to load because of the browser timing out!
Since I got the adblocker configured I have a much faster browsing experience!
I do NOT block ads that are hosted on the original news server even though they could also be readily blocked, these ads do not harm my browsing significantly.
Hmm, if I get a patent for something like ie the DNA sequence of the SARS virus should I not also be accountable for it's use? In this case shouldn't victims be able to sue the patent holder for damages??
Note that the linked article mentions a firm in Hong Kong that is seeking to patent the entire SARS virus.
Btw... how are mutations handled? Are they to be considered derived works??
The US may be leading the way with DMCA et al, but European politician are not far behind and in many cases ahead when it comes to silly regulations.
The "problem" is that the lobby groups are the same and they share the same interests whether in the US or in Sweden (and here the CD "tax" was recently doubled, and sales taxes are 25% yes twenty-five no forgotten decimal points in there) So.. in conclusion I think we're just as "pathetic" on both sides of the pond, timing may be different but the end result may be much the same. There's no escape:-(
Now, the remaining question is. There must be developing countries with the right attitude that will be able to compete in the future with a completely different perspective on these things. Where are they? What else is there to do?
What can we do - on both sides of the pond - to counter these trends?
as far as I recall here in Sweden it is not permitted to take aerial pictures without permission from the authorities. Yes this also means pictures taken from the window of a commercial flight...
This may have changed lately but I'm pretty sure it did apply not too long ago.
So... yes your modelplane with a mounted video camera would indeed (have been?) a spyplane;-)

Patch downloaded, compiled, configured, installed, restarted..

And it works
