In a society where business is actively trying to induce desire (for goods) in people is this really so surprising?

The problem with java always has been and always will be - SUN. If you wanna use java you have to play SUNs game because they've got the only halfway useable compilers / interpreters / JIT compilers.

How long do you think java is going to be "free" for? My guess -- another 5 years -- by then it will be everywhere -- and SUN will pull a Unisys and start charging fees for it. (this is just my oponion, not fact)

I think schools shouldn't teach their students langauges that aren't free (as in speach). Theres 100 C/C++ compilers you can buy/download, but just a couple java compilers.

Second, Perform weekly scans of machines and nightly scans of home directories ( through a smb share ).

Third, Procmail is your friend. I'll admit I haven't done it yet, but (when I get a free moment) I plan to write a procmail script to delete vbs attachments (*.vbs) and rename exes etc to *.e_xe in users mail ... theres no reason on earth anyone needs to send anyone a vbs attachment -- and by renaming all executables, people must explictly choose to rename the file to be able to run it.

Lastly, you must educate your users ... Tell em, don't open mail from people you don't know, don't run EXE's you didn't compile or I didn't install :) Theres some idiots who think they know stuff who will never follow your directions, but mostly, people will.

Its very hard to master the trinity of music - popularity, sales, and integrity -- Each is an independant variable. You can be popular and sell few albums -- Orbital comes to mind (might not be the best example).

You can sell alot of albums and not be popular -- Bob Marley sells a million albums a year even though hes dead ... Steely Dan is huge with album sales, ever seen themon MTV though?

You can have integrity and not be popular or sell many albums -- pat metheny, jan hammer, robert miles etc :).

Those lucky few exist in all 3 dimensions -- Sting, Dave Matthews Band etc :)

As an independant artist myself, I'm fully aware I exist in only one dimenstion integrity
