wake up people.. we have been divided in the middle by GPL and BSD . we have all stood for a long time to remove intellectual property and give away our thoughts and efforts to others who may need it for free. but now they are attempting to divide us between "viral" and "non-viral" groups. i'm sure that some of the BSD guys are going to accept this, and i'm sure some of the GPL guys are going to go against the BSD guys. but then we would have all lost our battle. To share our source and give away our efforts for the rich and the poor, and help humanity in general.
I was really unhappy that the other day BSD was not included in the document by Bruce Perens. Particulary because it was all about GPL. This is more than that. This is about keeping intellectual properties or not. This is about the freedom to code without thinking about stepping on somebody's one-click patent.
I'm sure the BSD guys would agree with this. but are they on the other side now ?? what is the response ?? the world is waiting..
hey.. and the good thing is.. clones can claim themselves twins to the original in order to get access.. assuming that they are at the moment at the same growth position as the original. The thing is that this document here didnt' give enough information on the comparison between Linux and MINIX , feature wise. I would just love find an article/document on the advantages of linux as a monolithic kernel vs. another kernel which is micro. This document here gave us just a comparison between linux and minix, on freeness, price, portability, patching the kernel and issues that were only relevant in 1992. Anybody has a newer document about this stuff ?
well.. i bet these zdnetters are juss trying to make our linus look idiotic. Its a conspiracy to create anger in the community towards linux. No wonder they are sponsored by M$. Almost everybody who read KT knows that linus prefers monolithic kernels. And i think someone out there is taking some of his comments too far. That could have just come out of a long paragraph. Without looking into the whole picture we would never know. I believe that the Apple's Mac OS X is a wonder( based on its GUI features). Linus would be probably loooking at its kernel. And kernel wise linux might be much better. But duh!.. "its crap "" ????? the kernel might be crap compared to linux. but not the whole OS itself right... A kernel is not an OS . you need a few others to make it an a true OS. And some of these are where Mac OS X outshines linux. But not its' kernel. Linus has every right to criticize other kernels. He created one of the best kernels outthere. I'm taking his word for it.

We already have ecotourism and have numerous protected zones where corel reefs are able to grow without human tinkering. Infact our main source of income for our country is tourism, and most of those who come here are divers. We need technology like this to look into other areas of income.
This could indeed be very valuable for our country , Maldives, which is covered by 99% sea. With only 1% of land, farming has never been done extensively. Most of our food is imported from outside and or is just fish. That means we don't have a rich diet of vegetables filled with minerals. If we can develop sea farming here miles and miles of knee deep lagoons can be used for sea farms like this. Almost every island has a large lagoon encicling it. And with more than 1100 islands we do have a lot of room for sea farming. This could be great for exporting and consuption here too. Minerals and fiber will be included in our diet, which for ages have been lacking.
this will never since i'm sure there are a lot of users who are just not interested in plugging in their PS2's to the internet.. and i'm sure there are some who just cannot do that . like me.. and i'm sure not going to buy a game which requires me to connect to the net first.. the internet is not that distributed.. not yet..
It's becoming just another buzzword. AI life is much more complicated than just striving and competing processes. Its about socail interaction between those processes. Communication and learning between those processes. Sharing of experiences. Logic to avoid bombs and duck bullets in fps are becoming known as AI. Real AI is so much way over all these. Where is the emotions..

it is point and clickity if you choose to use Xemacs.. and i feel that xemacs surpasses the emacs effort to port it to X.. now if they juss had a PHP mode.. or HTML mode for web programming. you could really use it for web programming.. ermm.. does anybody know if it supports embedded Perl ??

But is this true for the desktop? At this end the majority of users aren't technically accomplished and simply want to get things done. If there are half a dozen different types of system, each with their own way of doing things, then people are either going to have to be trained for each one, or lose out on potential employment at offices using an OS they don't know.
alternate possibility: if there was no microsoft
i think we would have been presented with a lot of API's.. much like in the linux scene. different desktops running on top of similar API's which could be handled by different server programs.. and no.. everything would be very much similar.. we all know that we steal from each others ideas.. don't worry.. it is no doubt that by refusing any other players on the desktop they have stifled innovation.
