    After 4 years at Lockheed(LMSC) or Lets make some cofee as we called it. I have never considered a return to any defense contractor a viable alternative .I'll put up with the layoffs . Would this be a big deal if GW had'nt been elected?

    Its nice to see the government is more interested in security than Microsoft. Maybe Bill Gates can now use Linux as a defense,in his antitrust suit .The NSA is just another agency of the US Government,and when the government starts making a Computer Operating system,and giving it away .Doesnt that make them (The Government) a competetor ?     Even if this works the Army will never use it . The Army has a system called STE/ICE which is a simple tester that can be used on all wheeled vechile and most tracked vechiles . The reason they dont use this is the cost each unit costs over 10,000 dollars. I wont be suprized when they (the Army) wont use this either. FTA

    I have lived in California for 37 years,I find this power issue just another reason to leave . My parents house in Sunnyvale cost 17,000$ in 1967 ,when we moved from San Jose,now it worth atleast Half a million.The roads are congested and get worse at a exponential rate ,The price of gas is almost 2$,and there is power problems and its going to get cold this week end .

    I was born in Sunnyvale(63) went to school there(Peterson)attended college at subMission. I rented my first house in Alviso in 82 for 285$ for a 2 bedroom house.And left after 35 years there becuse I couldnt stand having the high tech life shoved down my throat.Technology is great but I dont want to be reminded of work every time I go out ,Sunnnyvale reminds me of a Warren Zevon Song,"Waiting for the next best thing" If Silcon Valley is a religon,then it's a lame one

    Dot coms in SF should take note of this article . But in reality they wont ,the dot com I worked for was big on arrogance and short on thought . After my one year in the dot coms I gave up and am going back to work in the telco industry . Dot coms make no sense.

    In San Francisco If you try to get Dsl FORGET It. I was charged for two months of service before I recived my connection.Next was the task of getting a static IP .First I couldnt get one (fine that makes DSL usless to me since I need need a static Ip for Access list on my 7513 )Next when I could get an Ip address it was a enhanced business package with a /29 address instead of a /30 for ONE pc .Ultimately I gave in and bought the enhanced service,but I feel like the DSL providers are using every excuse to provide piss poor service at top dollar prices

    They are probably worried about the reverse problem, i.e. NTT sniffing packets too and from US Government servers and networks. That would make sense ,Verio provides service to a lot of Government agencies here in San Francisco

    Sf Level3 is even worse,they oversold the new co-lo facility and tried to take back what they had promised .It took several calls to their CEO to make them live up to the end of the deal. The worst part is that level3 is the only major co-lo in SF unless you want to go to an ISP like Verio (even worse)

    I have never been arrested and never been to jail. I find the idea of background checks revolting,I find it sad when employers are more interested in what some one else has to say about me that what I might have to say. Example I have a Bachlors degree and a DD-214 (Military Discharge , Honarable)Did my last two employeers care about what college I went to or did I get a Honarable discharge NO they want to know what my credits like or if I have ever been arrested.Trying to get a new job is sometimes like going to jail except ,for an employer you have to prove your innocence .

    There is more than one dirty little secret about Sv housing.A lot of single family homes are not single families any more .When I lived in sunnyvale on fairoaks & evelyn.I saw 2 bedroom apartments that housed as many as 8 adults . If you think Veal calfs have it bad take a long hard look those who make minimum wage.

    I do not use Napster and do not have the desire to What I want to know is "By what means did Metallica use to obtain the names of the people they gave to Napster." The point I want to make is who appointed them (Metallica ) the internet police.If I found out that a IP addres or an email address from my domain was listed by Metallica in their case aganst Napster I would be inclinded to sue Metallca. Make no mistake I am not for or aganst Napster. But I will not allow my privacy to be violated by a group of artist,whats next the MPAA or the arts snob commision want to view my hard drive .

    I work at a company that serves banner ad images . I find the actions of ZD deplorable trying to sucker people in with FUD ,so the advertisers can serve a few more images .This not hurts ZD image but hurts the advertisers. This is not an invite to flame banner ad companies,alot of them are bottom feeders I wont dipute that,but advertising is a part of the Internet .As far as ZD goes I worked there ( ZDCF ziff davis comdex forums) for two years .The best way to get even with them is not to buy their magazine and dont visit there sites.They(ZD) are always hurting for funds dont give then any .
