Also - do we really want to do fission - its so 20th century and dangerous - news today - The UK has built up a stockpile of 100 tonnes of plutonium - enough to make 17,000 nuclear bombs http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7006056.stm

  3. Whatever happened to priorities on UK Police Cracking Down on Broadband Theft · · Score: 2, Interesting

Quite frankly violent crime and yobbish behaviour seem to be rising at quite an alarming rate where I live and commute. The local off-license has been hit 3 times this year, there have been 2 local murders, I personally saw an assult in broad daylight last month and someone threw a punch at my bus driver this morning. This is in an area where 250000 pounds might just get you a 2 bed flat/house. On top of this we see news today of an 11 year old shot dead by some youth on a bike. Celebs constantly getting away with drug or dangerous driving offenses. So then someone was using someone uses broadband wifi without their permission - simple solution - just give the victim a weblink showing them how to secure their connection (overall cost £10 max), give the guy stealing bandwidth a talking to and then get on with some real police work - dumb solution - Arrest the evil doer and drag him through the courts (Overall cost - Thousands) Actually this reminds me of when I was living in South Africa, 1 day there were 2 stories on the same page of a national newspaper, in 1 story someone bizarrely got away with a 500 rand fine for killing someone, in the other someone got a 1000 rand fine for not having a TV license. The obvious joke then did the rounds - If you don't have a TV license and the inspector comes - just kill him, its cheaper.

  4. Simple explanation on Firstborn Get the Brains · · Score: 1

Parents will generally spend more time with the first child than the later ones (because amount of time available is devided by the children) and so the first child will get a bit more attention and one-on-one learning from the parents when they are very young. Later, if they have siblings, they will usually be the natural leader and teacher and you really start to learn things well when you have to teach them to someone else. This would easily account for such a small difference. However, I remember a study that said that the most successful people financially are more likely to come from 80th to 95th percentile - so sometimes it doesn't pay to be too intelligent.

In the interests of destroying this ghastly idea to violate all of our civil liberties I propose a new sport to put the most unpleasent sectors of society to a sensible use. Split your teams of yobbos up into groups of 4/5 (ensure that hoddies are worn and identifying clothing etc.. is minimised) - team captains select a la football picks. Each team then has 30 minutes to cause the maximum amount of response from a speaking camera (each team can choose the camera), each sentence/command gets one point, each threat to call the police gets 3 points and if the police turn up then the team gets 10 points (but only if they evade capture in the following 2 days). The team with the most number of points wins whatever creative thing they can think of. After the camera's go we will release the snakes to get rid of the yobbos and then release the gorrillas to get rid of the snakes - the gorillas will obviously freeze to death in the winter and we will all be free
