First it is the jpeg killer and now it is FLASH killer. Any use of the term "killer" in a headline is a joke.
Ok so Intel introduces PRAM, but at what price point? Flash is surly going to drop in price. For any *real-life* application - does it really matter? Probably not. So is a manufacture going to choose a lower priced Flash memory chip or a new and more expensive PRAM memory chip?
It speed was the only concern everyone would be attaching serial attached SCSI hard drive to their computers. The gamers - the speed demons - cant even get serial attached SCSI in their high end pre-built machines(alien wear).
As with everything it is cost per megabyte, performance per dollar, and Watts per hour.
Flash will be around for a long time. PS3 was going to be the dominant player in the console market and what happened? Zune was the iPod killer, where does Microsoft rank in the MP3 player market?
It is not like this is a new technology in a general sense (to the average consumer), to be announced as "killer" it must be a new technology that will instantly replace all existing technology in that particular nitch. DLP/LCD tabletop TVs were the "RPTV CRT killer". CRT based RPTVs vanished overnight.
Fact: Microsoft paid over 1 BILLION dollars to settle patent infringement suits last year.
How much sympathy will anyone in the tech community give him when his company practices that he is talking about.

Microsoft needs to get with the times. They need new distribution channels. Look at google, they charge for very little (on the consumer end) and open up almost everything (via API). Seems to me that google is making a pretty penny.

The/average/ user does not need duel core computers. They do not need windows vista. They do not need 4gb or ram. Is this a joke?

Almost every computer purchased in the last 5 years can run office and xp with under 1gb of ram let alone any home brew applications that an office might have.
Why exactly are these computer on the internet to begin with? There is really no need for any of these computer to be connected to the public internet.

Do you want to know why OSX runs so smoothly on ALL of it supprted HW? Do you want to know why in 1998 you were getting a BSOD while I was happly using OS8?
It all boils down to HW. Apple is not a software or hardware company. They provide you with a computer solution. The HW is specifically selected for max performance, SATBILITY, and compatibility. You know the experience when you are getting a mac. To that end, they has a few MOB components they have to support, a few video cards, ect. This allows them to get it right and to make sure that everythng works. That is why it is more stable. They do not have to rely on outdated, incompatable, or poorly implimented drivers because they have their own.
As for the title of this article, it is compleatly misleading. I would also encourage running darwine. I have been using it for office and halo 2 for quite a while and it works great.
People are really stupid when it comes to the internet - normal people (as defined by not being on here or in an industry directly involved in technology). Many kids today in schools do NOT know how to type in a URL. Google, being a very common homepage is now the NEW URL bar. People just start at google type in what they want (Yahoo) and it take them there. No need to type in the URL.
I guess it is just the state of our schools and technology today! soon you will never need your handy dandy URL bar.

Why would a company need to upgrade at all. PCs as of now, are able to do EVERYTHING that most companies need. Why do you need a faster CPU to do excell or word?
It would be irresponsible for any company to upgrade to VISTA as it offers NO added functionality to the current windows OS in-terms of productivity.
There is no reason for a hardware refresh in most cases. I can run most corporate SW on a P2 running xp with 256 ram. There is no need for dual core ect ect ect in the office.
I am speaking in most cases.

I can code a voting system in less then one day which will be 100% accurate. I don't understand how/why it is so hard for a Gov. to roll these things out.
If they are worried then have inside people code the terminals. How hard is this?
The ultimate worry in these systems is voter fraud but this probably happens 1000 fold on paper ballots as mays states do not require ID to vote.
Simple solution - scan your ID you get to vote. print a receipt that you see go into a box and one that it gives you. end of story.
Whomever in in-charge of these systems should be fired. This type of system is NOT that complicated.

The MPAA says they are losing billions of dollars. I call bull shit on that. People are still flocking to buy DVDs. People are still going to the theaters. Maybe if they made quality movies that are reasonably priced they would get more support.
It is not as if they are losing billions of dollars. They are just making less billions of dollars if that makes since.
