Hmm.. as the parent implies, this is a bit redundant. If I want a secure POSIX compliant system, there's alread OpenBSD - why would I need a Linux variant (or, for RMS, a GNU/Linux variant)?

And if you do go to Alaska, you may be disappointed - "Insomnia" was filmed in British Columbia.
I have a shelf full of Heinlein. He had many good ideas. Some of his early fiction, forcibly reduced by editors, is pretty good writing.
Most of it is utter crap. From "I Will Fear No Evil" onwards, he rejected professional editors and churned out proof after proof of Sturgeon's dictum - 90% of everything is crap.
So don't get all snippy because someone doesn't compare to Heinlein - to my mind, that's a compliment.
Well, take a look at the rates I pay in Ottawa at IStop.com
Residential 1.2M/160K is $29.95, plus modem rental, and a static IP will run you $4/month extra. 10Gb local (news, mail and proxy) and 10 Gb outside per month, $3 per GB beyond the limit.
And did I mention those are all Canadian dollar prices; multiply by 0.6 to get the USD equivalent.
There's much more than the Director - what about the screenwriter? For adaptations, the source material writer? Producers control funding which restricts directors - and some are intimately involved with creating the look of a film.
All this to say: a movie is much more than the product of a mere director.
That's probably the reason Apple never released an Intel x86 compatible version of MacOS. It would have been too easy for competitiors to make clones, and too easy for user to upgrade their hardware without buying from Apple. Apple would be stuck with the high cost of developing the OS (and there's a LOT of development money going into it), without making money on the hardware.
And as as we've seen with Microsoft, operating systems companies don't make much money.
I also have to wonder if I'll still get confused with my father? Had a great credit record because I bought a house when I was 5.
Same thing here, except for me it was the credit card I was issued beofre I was born. It actually took a few weeks to convince the bank they had made a mistake.
Once the VB mind becomes truly self-aware, it'll probably want to kill itself.

Mr Haldeman's Vietnam experience is nicely summed up in his poem "DX", found in None So Blind. In the afterword to that piece, he writes "But DX is truly unique. I've read a lot of science fiction and some autobiography. This is the only piece I know of that is both."
I'd strongly recommend both None so Bline and Dealing in Futures, two of his short story collections. Both are great reads, with wonderful observations and thoughts interspersed aong the stories and poems.

You joke - but in WWII the Russians did some experiments with dogs, training them to associate the underside of a tank with food. Strap on a mine, and boom.
First field trial worked perfectly - dogs saw tanks and ran towards them. Only problem: they'd been trained to associate Russian tanks with food, not German, and forced the Russians into retreat.
(this may well be urban legend, but it's a great story)

Vicious, violent, yet holds an element of truth.
(not that I'd endorse such a thing...)

Er, shouldn't that be:
/usr/bobby/school/english/reports/steppenwolf . oc
The directory structure should be descriptive as well, so the filenames can be trivial.

And how about that punk brat Mozart?
Killer clown from outer space?

Has she ever clicked on "Always trust content from Comet Cursor"? That may be the reason.
Now, what's that OS I should be running my servers on again? Oh yes, BSD.
(Karma at 50 means you can stop pandering...)
Which system(s)? I was an Atari fan, myself (still got an 800 for MULE and a few 800xls put aside).
Those were the days, weren't they?

Yep. Again, people are confusing a tech demo with a real product.
And we're obviously going to spend a lot in marketing because we think the product sells itself...
AH! It's all so clear now!

No, Haldeman was a sapper.
And yes, there's a big difference.
Some would argue that it's about time Kibo took over something beyond Usenet.
With the low margins on all memory types, even 3% is a significant hit.
Gah. Hate to reply to myself, but I found a link!

Of course not. They should merely cut off the offending finger(s).
