So if they're resistant to UV, which can kill many nasty bugs that plague humanity, I wonder which of our other defenses (antibiotics, autoclaves, etc.) they can survive.
Suppose those bugs are so foreign that they cannot infect us and pass through our bodies without reacting. Maybe those bugs are there in order to breed with other dangerous space bugs that _could_ infect us if they got here. Sort of like an anti-panspermia layer: Sorry boys, this rock's already taken.
Most extremophiles are so adapted to their environment that they can survive but have a hard time reproducing in more conventional environments.
It is amazing how life is found almost everywhere we look for it. I bet with the right equipment something primitive might even be found in RIAA offices.
Rockets don't end wars. Soldiers storming into a Hezbollah or Hamas stronghold will. Rockets are great for starting wars, but only soldiers on the ground can end them.
I know, KDE out of the box needs a lot of customization. Like you say, for some that's a feature and for some that's a bug. Gnome is pretty decent too, I'm not one of these KDE vs Gnome freaks. I'd just like the publicity around KDE 4.0 and 4.1 to die down. They were never meant for end users, I really don't know why most of the major distros forced them on people.
She did request Linux. More specifically she said "I just want to read my mail, chat on Skype, and read the news online. I don't want to worry about updating and viruses and spies and breakins". That sounds like textbook request for Ubuntu right there.
Well, it hasn't stopped the adoption of KDE by techies. How many non-techies do you know of who would go into a BestBuy and say, "But does it run KDE or some derivative thereof?"
If my 74 year old mother in law, who closes IE and reopens it to get back to her Google homepage, can install and use Kubuntu (I burned the disk and left it at that) then trust me anybody can do it. And that was Kubuntu 8.04: next month it will be two versions behind! Trust me, Linux and KDE have come a long way.
It goes further than that. Try Googling "how old is Britney Spears" and "what is the population of iceland" (without quotes). The answer appears at the top, separately from the search results.
Try checking the number of horns on a bicorn and you'll see that the google engine is not intelligent, artificial or otherwise. Or would you like to argue that bicorns are not real, and therefore don't count?
...but it's generating it's own power and is communicating.
Which was in question for about a minute. I was watching the launch on NASA TV and the signal did _not_ get reported when expected. There were a few tense moments and you could see the engineers squirming and getting frustrated. Then the report of the signal came, and a collective "ahh" was heard. Apparently the signal was received on time, but the person in charge of announcing it was a bit late. Or, he was making for drama!
Frankly, the more time they spend doing silly crap like this, the less time the spend screwing something important up. It's too bad it wastes tax dollars to do it, though...
Would you rather that they go after hookers on craigslist?
And what should that email say, exactly? More specifically, to what URLs could I point the devs to an _unbiased_source_ that IE is insecure and Firefox is secure?
I have this problem with Hebrew websites constantly, in fact, about two hours ago I wrote to a local news website about their IE-only policy. Being able to point them to an unbiased, reliable source to back up the "Firefox is safer" claim would help.

You should take a look at KDE 4.2. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Too bad Rockbox has "by techies, for techies" approach to the user interface.
The same could be said of KDE. Hasn't stopped it's adoption has it?

Sounds more like a serving suggestion. Got me to click!
I never said that it wasn't useful! I love google, but I would not call it intelligent.
Pre-teen girls excepted.
Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Google them together, it returns your post!

2. THEY know that Kepler will be pointed the wrong way anyway.
If Kepler is pointed at Earth then it would stand a much better change of finding an Earth-like planet, no?

People still get malware, and still use Symantec products?
You mean, it's _not_ the year of the Linux desktop yet?!?

Slashdot declares Illinois retarded
Too bad that Craigslist has beaten /. to it.
Everybody knows Pluto is a dog.
And in Illinois, he is on the right side of the door?
Norton says that nimp.org is safe! Ha!
Try mailing them colorado . nimp . org

Personally I'm running a mix of hardy/intrepid7jaunty right now to get what I want.
Freud would be proud of how you got this thread back on topic (7).
