But there are no ads in my bittorrents. If there are ads in YOUR bittorrents, then you're going to the wrong sites. No ads = no interest from the advertisers.

Agreed. Hulu could make a heap of cash by simply broadcasting the "Hulu Rating" (they may already) Similar to the "Billboard Top 20 Albums" You could soon make Nielsen irrelevant.

I've dabbled in the programming language Alice and it's quite neat to see my seven year old manipulate things on the screen. I am just trying to get him exposed to a lot of different things, computers, reading, baseball, swimming, and look at enhancing the things he becomes passionate about - whether that's football or C# programming.
I can add to his base of knowledge by advising him, but ultimately, he'll need to climb the peaks and sustain the valleys.
That being said, I will tell him that if he ever wants to get laid, he should stay away from Linux.

I simply disagree. Small offices are some of the easiest offices to lock down - providing you know where to look. What you lack, unfortunately, is an advocate in the user community that will allow those standards to be set. You are right, you can't just show up Monday and start editing group policies. What you can do is show the owner or financial person the cost associated with cleaning a virus, versus the cost associated (and increased productivity) with keeping a computer streamlined and protected. Small businesses - especially in this economy - will listen to ANYONE who can tell them how to save a buck. The ding-dong receptionist who just happens to need AutoCad on her computer because she prints some stuff for the guy in the corner office needs to be protected the MOST because she's on Facebook all day playing Bejeweled. Additionally, when you tell the financial person that she's ON Facebook all day - that may prompt an entirely separate conversation. Companies aren't fond of paying people now a days to just surf the Internet all day. Keep on it - you're right - it's political and can be a mess. Just don't throw up your hands and say "welp, can't beat 'em, so I'll just join 'em."

There is a significant number of folks using Moodle out in the educational world. I also think it's a good move. It is curious that M$ has gotten all GPL-crazy in recent days, but maybe someone over there is starting to get it?? Nah. That can't be it...

We just started using Open Audit about a month ago and it's pretty slick. It does a great job with the windows machines. Still haven't gotten it to audit our Mac machines, but working towards that goal. It does need a little massaging (hey, what doesn't!) when it comes to automating the way it audits. We run a script periodically to pull in updated information. But so far, it's doing a good job of tracking our 500 Nodes and 40 Servers.
