Anyone else wondering why the solar vehicle was on a public road with oncoming traffic at high enough speed to not be able to react to an out-of-control solar vehicle?
I'm just guessing that the solar vehicle wouldn't be licensed/registered for on-road use without some form of police escort or other safety measures. From the articles, it doesn't seem this is the case.
It doesn't really matter what kind of vehicle hit the solar vehicle. It could have been a Miata and the poor student would likely still be dead.
I used to frequent garageband.com a lot when I was in university (something about not having to pay for all that bandwidth!) and I have to say it's a great way to get exposure and feedback on your music.
Everyone else has said it, you need to get exposure and lots of it. Start working on finding as many online music communities and peddle your wares. Don't forget about your local scene either! If it's not big enough, start branching out to places within a couple hours drive.
Word of mouth is still one of the best ways to get exposure and the net is really just word of mouth.
This story is different than the one I read in either the Ottawa Sun or the Ottawa Citizen (can't remember which paper and I can't find a link either). That story stated the charges were related to the sale of the copied games, not because of the modchips.
Last time I checked, it's still legal to void your warranty.
The new site may support Linux, but what about all the other flavours of UNIX? I had to laugh the first two times I complained when I said I was trying to connect from an HPUX workstation. Their first response was "we don't currently support Linux". Now they must have me on a filter to trash because I haven't gotten an email response in months.
OK. First stop thinking in terms of computers and start thinking in terms of optical equipment.
To get 40G signals they would have to mux four 10G (OC-192) signals onto a fiber which could then be fed into the OC-768 system. And of course, to get the OC-192 signal, they would need OC-48 or OC-12 subtending equipment being fed by DS-3 sources.
Te get multiple 40G signals, they can do this miltiple times, or more likely they will just feed the same signal through the system on multiple wavelengths. It doesn't really matter as each wavelength is it's own "channel".
It's good to see that you have made such a public apology and maybe all Slashdot readers and posters can learn something from this.
Maybe we should all start checking our sources and reading everything three time to make sure that what we are passing on is actually true. More than one business has been destroyed by terrible untrue rumours and that is not what we want to see happenin the Linux community.
So, let's start thinking about what is being posted. What is said here is being read by thousands of people each day and unfounded rumours or incorrect facts can be very damaging to all parties involved.
As the proud owner of a Sony MZ-R50 portable MD recorder and a Sony MDS JE510 home MD deck, and someone with a 3GB+ collection of MP3s and over 220 CDs, I can say that MD rocks!
Find me a portable MP3 player that fits in your jeans pocket and holds 74 minutes of CD quality music. I haven't yet.
CDs portables are too bulky to transport and you can get a MD recorder for the price of a good anti-skip portable CD player.
Not only are MD recorders getting smaller and better battery life, they have a standard media that you can swap any time. I can carry my MD player in one pocket and 4 MD in the other. And with the battery life on just the rechargeable, I can listen to all of those MDs a couple times before my battery dies.
If I want to listen to MP3s I just copy them onto a MD via my JE510. Excellent. Get a sound card with an optical out and your talking digital copying to your MD.(Xitel Storm Platinum is an example)
MD is far from dead. Get your mind out of the US centric world and take a look at Europe and Japan. More MD units are sold in Japan than any where else in the world and they obviously sell, other wise why would new units be made? Check out the new Sony MZ-R90. It's only millimetres larger than an MD and only two MDs thick. And it has a battery life of something like 30 hours.
MD is much more versatile than MP3 and until MP3 units are able to store in the region of 128MB, I won't be buying one.
In case some of you forgot, Cowpland is just the CEO of Corel, he is not Corel. That means that if indeed he is found guilty of insider trading (to use the commonly known term) then he will most likely step down as CEO and someone else will be appointed. The stock in question was his own personal stock which he had purchased by himself.
Corel will take some heat over the whole deal but all in all, Corel will keep on going. Remember that a corporation is an individual, just like a person, in the eye of the law. Corel did not do anything illegal.
So, the moral of this rant - don't think that just because a company employee does something illegal that the company is going to go under or be destroyed. That would be like Rob Malda getting arrested for rotten poll answers and Slashdot getting the rm -rf / for it.
