Having the robot play the violin is not so much to show off its musical skills as much as it is a proof of concept demonstrating fine control along many points of articulation in order to mimic a complicated series of rhythmic motions
sure. such dexterity in a robotic arm, combined with machine precision, would increase efficiency in automobile production by an order of magnitude, but as these advances in automation always do, it will likely take away many semi-skilled jobs as well. On the other hand, now is a good time to be a robot technician.
In other news, the popular website Slashdot.org was sued today by the Canadian government for mentioning a new draconian copyright law proposal. Under the article, it is no longer fair use to mention anything anyone else has made, said, or put into print ever.
What? Now we're being sued for reporting it? Aww fuck
How do Microsoft's accusers expect people to get other internet browsers if there is no way to access the internet pre-installed on the system. There seems to be a gap in their logic. Without the so-called 'evil' included browser, users either have to pay to get a different browser or get one from someone else who already has one. Either way, it would be inconvenient for the customer, cost them money for something that up until this point has been free, and would cripple Microsoft's operating systems, especially if Apple, Linux, and other systems were not subject to the same restriction.
On the same token, maybe Mac and linux users could stop trolling all the windows articles...but then, that wouldn't be slashdot, would it?
Maybe they could get rid of the bill-gates-as-borg pic too, since it immediately implies bias in the article.
You don't see a pic of a broken Clockwork Apple on this page, or anything equally snarky, so why the double-standard?
Apple has made it attractive to hackers of the non-malicious sort. Those are merely the ones we've heard of, who benefit from publicizing their discoveries. The most dangerous hackers are the ones we haven't heard of.
I'm not sure whether it's funny or sad that so many people here take personal offense to what one company does or does not do to another. In the end, it's up to them (both Microsoft and Apple) how they want to run their own business, and they are not required to develop for each other.

so you're saying that this doesn't have an obvious application in manufacturing processes? And you're calling me stupid?

Getting paid by the parenthesis while coding LISP is good too
I prefer to get paid by the semicolon...just so long as I don't have to code in VB

Ever meet a Microsoft employee? Most of them are really quite nice

you'd have to be a pretty big douchebag to hack a blind man's bionic eyes
