Apple has a very very good track record for accessibility. It's present throughout the OS, and it's present on iPods. The second link discusses how to use these settings and features in detail, from a blind user's perspective.
Monstrously heavy? Please tell me you're joking. My 8-year-old daughter has been using one for at least 2 years, and she prefers to hold it / use it while she stands or walks around.
In Thunderbird I have auto-sorting to maybe 20 folders, and several saved searches. One of these saved searches is "Last 24 hours" which records everything sent or received in the last 24 hours. This makes it relatively simple to see what's new, and ensure I don't miss emails.
Steve Jobs, via Apple Computer, helped a lot of people. Together they influenced countless careers and lives, more so than anyone else (or any other company) of our lifetime.
I was quite upset when he died, not because I knew him but because I can see all the ways Apple products make my life easier and more productive. This man was someone I deeply respected and hoped to emulate in a lot of ways.
Yes, perhaps a hero of sorts. What is wrong with that? Would you feel more comfortable if it was a sports star who received such admiration? An actress? Please. When you write things such as this, you seem upset and a bit jealous. You should try to be as great an influence as this man.
Stallman has done many things to help the free software movement, and I appreciate those efforts. HOWEVER, the more I learn about the man and the more he talks, the more I wish he'd just shut up. He's sounding more and more like those church kooks who try to bait people (I don't wish to give them more press so am omitting their name).
He's way beyond troll (troll cubed? With Stallman, more like "troll rounded"), time to let the vitriol rest.
Look up UFED / Cellebrite. This gives a lot of power to the lowest level of cop.
Very dangerous... I'm quite sure (because of the sheer number of laws) the average person has something which could be construed as illegal, embarrassing or sensitive on their smartphone. What's that quote about six lines of text and an honest person?
NoSquint works in FF8 (Mac). Use the Compatibility add-on which allows you to enable it.
Note I'm not defending the practice of disabling extensions merely because their hardcoded version number is too low. That's a whole other mess which is confusing to most end-users.
Hey if you're going to be another Microsoft apologist, at least man up enough to admit it. There's no way you could know the history and come to the same "nothing to see here" conclusion. Unless you're a troll, in which case I say, "Good job, you got me."
Go look up Palladium and see what that was/is all about. This wasn't Apple fans' fault. This is coming from your favorite company -- Microsoft -- who has been trying to stuff a dick into everyone's asses for decades. You're just mad because they told you it was a lollipop. But go ahead, blame everyone else for your lack of awareness. And for God's sake pull your pants up.
You're missing the part about Microsoft being a convicted monopolist. From your ID, maybe you're too young to have been around long enough to see some of Microsoft's practices firsthand. or maybe you're just trolling.
Practically everything you buy or consume in some way is manufactured, transported, or distributed by a company who employs some level of low-paid worker. Consumers want their shiny *cheap*, so it's either do that or be run out of business. In this case, this company wanted to be jerks and Apple subsequently wouldn't approve their app -- it didn't meet the published guidelines. Wah-wah-wah. You're getting your panties in an uproar over that fact, and missing the whole point that any single company isn't going to sacrifice profits for the sake of some poor Chinese workers -- not in today's society anyway, where it's all about the money.
Fight the system if you want, but your attack-this-company-of-the-day attitude doesn't make any changes long-term. Have a banana-flaxseed smoothie and chill out. Surely there's a better way to promote change if that's what you really want.
Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal... but in my experience the USPS has mangled my mail and packages at multiple residences, left a set of apartment mailboxes open several times (which exposes 8 mailboxes to the elements and everyone else), delivered mail addressed to another address (multiple residences again), folded my mail (when it wasn't necessary to fit in the box) (multiple residences), and not delivered mail (have had to call to get bills re-mailed -- at several residences).
Not to say that the other shipping methods don't have their own problems (UPS, FedEx, and DHL have all done very very stupid things) but the others rarely misdeliver. I rely on the USPS for certain types of correspondence and I expect better.
It's an appliance. The fact that you even have the ability to jailbreak it says something about its functionality. Really, if you don't like the features -- or require features not present -- there are lots and lots of other devices from which to choose.
<grumbling>This is like buying a motorcycle and being upset it doesn't have a trunk. If you wanted a trunk, don't buy a motorcycle...
I really appreciate all the hard work you've done here. I can't tell you how many times I've checked in during the day just to see what was being actively discussed by this community.
Best of luck in the future in whatever you decide to do : )
Hey if being a Negative Nellie makes you sleep better, great. The fact is Apple products work pretty damn well for most of us. Their products are selling very well. Their stock is going way up. Apple is a popular company. Hurts you somehow, doesn't it?
If you don't understand the benefits of the Apple App Store, a couple of people from the Internet probably aren't going to catch you up. No one else is responsible for your lack of information or lack of study, and you alone can remedy that.
So far as attitude is concerned, you're coming up short on patience and long on criticism -- overly harsh and haughty as if someone owed you something. WTF?
I'll give you a synopsis: Do your own research, asshole.
As an atheist, I do my best to live my life to not hurt others. Because I only get one chance and I already regret some of the things I've done in the past.
Just because I'm not quaking in my boots that some angry god will tear me limb from limb doesn't mean I have no morals or values or treat everyone as a Satanist would.
Morality isn't what is used to control the weak-minded, it's religion.

+1 Insightful. I hate when my idealism doesn't match reality.
If they want to be this way, vote 'em out. Bastards.

+9000 Insightful. Sheesh I'm embarrassed by Stallman.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting.

Meanwhile documents showing how bad DOS 5 was are still in Microsoft's pages.
If you've used Vista, DOS 5 was an improvement. <ducks>

Armchair quarterback: I bet if I added up your accomplishments against those of Linux Torvalds, you would be found wanting.
Complaining doesn't solve anything. Get off your duff and get involved in whatever way you can contribute.

Good luck squirting with your Zune or whatever.
Really?
