it would be fun, I remember back in the day when I amazed my friends by taking out a cyberdemon with a shotgun it took forever but it was cool, (after playing doom for three hours on end i used to get nightmares about them)
I work for a young e-commerce company. We started out using NT servers and within 3 weeks of crashing and horrible performance we went with all linux servers the increase in performance was amazing. I already convinced my boss to let me install linux on my workstation.

well actualy its a undisputed fact that men make more money on average at work. so for the man to stay home is a bad idea,

i would go with WM on a kde machine just warf all the apps he would use, and it would be a hell of alot easier to teach him then windows,
there are three computer stores where i live that carry em, there not that hard to find
