Mac already has them.. i forget the name but i think you can still get them from mac warehouse and the such.. the ones i have seen have 5 buttons, are wirless and 3D
i am guessing that you are not an image editor since i just spent a few hours on my PC doing what i could do in only one on my mac. i use tons of photoshop and after effects filters that take ten minutes or so on my PC that are like 30 seconds on a mac
i have found that there too reasons that harrassment occurs in schools 1: because the harrasser feels threatened by the talent/knowlege of the harrassee 2: because the harrasser feels that they have something to prove to their peers and can project this byt picking on ones percieved to be smaller
a yes... the reliable public library i think that there was an article about geronimo dating elvis in the last 'national enquirer'..... pretty close in accuracy too much of time
you seam to be missing the whole point of 2001, for it is not about space at all. no, 2001 is about options and questions, not answers, and not physical exploration. If you fail to understand than think harder
if you want a fast, low memory, browser than check out http://browserwatch.internet.com/ for 1X... it is still in beta, but it is only 1.4 megs and is the fastest browser i have found. It can't run java or javascript, but hell, who really needs those?
though you may have a decent theory of how to solve the issue, it is quite terrible in practice. The fact that parents have access to sites that their children visit can be quite devestating for, especially teenagers may wish to seek information that their parents may find inappropriate or provide other information about the childs behavior.
Examples of this include information on contraceptips abortion alternate religions computer security (anyone doing that -must- be a hacker) chat rooms (this also brings the issue of whether these will be logged) social services/parental abuse
this is just an extremly small list of items kids and teens could look up that i believe we would all agree they should have access too, but they might not visit if they knew that their parents would find out.
would you go to a site on parental abuse if your parents could find out you'd been there??
ok, the first thing that i would like to say is: nudity does not equal pornography. anyone listening to npr this mourning heard about a teacher in a conservative christian town in sc that was forced to leave (well, maybe not _forced_, strongly influenced) because 1: she practices wicca 2: some of her rituals included nudity that was posted on her website (which had all of the appropriate warnings)
ok, at this point i am near the subject, but not on it so i shall move slightly.
the point that i was trying to make is that standards do not follow rules, and things such as nudity, do not always equal inappropriate (the above may be a bad example of this so i shall put forth the example to breast cancer).
in addition, what right do people have to vote who have no knowlege of the issues. in our culture, we base status on age, instead of intelegence, and this leads to idiocies such as this whole issue. voters should have to score 20% or higher on a common sense test in order to vote on each issue (no, i am not serious, most wouldn't even make 10%)
oh well, i have ranted on the subject but not for long enough and have left things in circles for the moderators to not get and mark down as being "off topic"
^- not sure where i got that quote from, but it applies
I am a nonprogrammed Quaker, and have therefore been exposed to many different diversity realted issues. Diversity and acceptance, i have found, can be forced upon a group very quickly, but this requires the loss of many traits that make us human, and it creates a "utopia" by destroying all those who don't conform. (think a cross between the ultra conservative christian right and 1984)
the second way to achieve acceptance and diversity (in any situation, i am not talking about just the net, since the internet is a community, not just like very other, but close enough) is to declare that you have diversity and acceptance, and just ignore it when the homosexuals are beaten to death and the middle easterners are ostrasized. This is a very popular way to achieve "diversity" for people are gullible enough to think that it is good, and it was achieved quickly and cheaply.
The third way is to pump large ammounts of energy and commitment into te goal of, not getting everyone to see things your way, but just for people the see your view (yes, there is a difference). The problem with this meathod is that even though idividuals and small groups are able to accept one another, once people are told to accept those that they have never seen and know little about, it gets harder. people have a tendency of shutting themselves in and only opening up to new ideas if they are presented by a friend who is familiar. This meathod also will not work because it takes vast ammounts of energy in both capital and human energy, and lets face it: people are lazy
the final way, and the only one that i feel has any hope is to slowly expand the horizens of those close to one, and to spread this, thus creating a web of acceptance, in which people slowly integrate into a world wide society where everyone it equal. This may seam like an impossible meathod now, especially when you consider that this type of society would almost definitly be tribalistic (sorta like communistic, what communism was coppied off of) but, as things such as the internet destroy geographical and language (hopefully soon:-) barriers, people will be almost forced to interact with those who are different. The slow progression of technology forcing different groups to interact will create children who grow up -knowing- people of all diffent back grounds and beliefs. i am hoping that this will lead to a progression towards true euquality, but as it is apparent: this meathod is extremely slow and i have know expectation of living to see an equal world, but i also feel that *someday* humans may come together.
The ammount of memory that the finder takes up is irrelevent.... in the context of Quake 3. Mac treats Finder just like any other program, an therefore it is possible to exit out of it. I used this trick a lot when i had an old LCII (15mhz i think) so that i could run a single program and not use memory on the others. For mac 7.1 (which is what i had) all i needed to do was download finderquitter or something that sounded like that, I think i got it from the whacked mac archives, but i am really not sure anymore, if you search for it you should be able to find it, and if it doesn't work in OS/X you can bet that it will be created soon.
On the other hand though, when running actual productive apps (i know this doesn't apply to most of you:) the finder is important as well as its memory consumption.
"these guys are victims of the same schooling as the rest of us. Plus testosterone;-)"
You Seam to have forgotten the joys of estrogen, for IMHO that nasty hormone can be worse than testosterone. Also, do the letters PMS bring anything close to flaming to mind???
You were never a kid were you? At least not a very responsible kid. Some of the so-called 'children' who you think are second class citizens have respectable jobs (such as administrative assistant) and others are even self relient. I believe that you are judging an entire generation by the media image that has been presented to your feet, either that or you are just stupid, but i will be optimistic and go with ignorance as stated above. The average teen is not just looking out for themself, well, at least no more than the average american. In addition, your comment on teens not being exposed to the world i find utterly insulting. Maybe you lived a protective life where you did not have to face issues such as death, rape and suicide, but sadly the so-called average teen these days is forced into coping with these. As for you comment: " I don't WANT healthy, normal, selfish, sex-obsessed teenage boys running the world, and neither do you" I also hope you can defend yourself using ignorance. In my religious group, sleeping is accomplished in more or less a big multi-gender pile, censorship and "modesty" are almost completely absent, and we are able to function without letting our hormones drive us into acts that you would probably try if you were in such an open society. to rephrase i shall give an example: I am but 15, and in the recent past I crashed at one of my friends house's. My parents had met her once, but they had *trust* in me. We ended up sleeping on the couch together, and that trust was not violated, for we had both relized a while back that there are better things in life than physical escapades. I would like to hear you say that if you slept with someone who you wern't unattracted to that nothign would happen, ya right. Us, mear teens, not even considered citizens are actually responsable enough to have common sense which is a lot more than i can say for most of the 20somethings that i know.
Another item to consider is that my interest in philosophy has led me into discussions with adults over twice my age, and you know what: they have nothing in their minds more powerful than what is in mine. A true dialouge was reached in many cases where the other party was aged enough to be my parent, but since i actually have the intelegence and maturity to speak at their level i was respected.
well my insane rant is done We are equal, live with it or die a weak fool, you choose.
hmm.... i'm just a fool and have been unable to make my quad box work (free, openBSD, Redhat6.1, winblows 95[i ike games ok?]) and i think you may have hit on the solution... hmm....... well a little acid never hurt anyone
