  1. Re:Hauppauge HD-PVR and Snapstream BeyondTV on Best PC DVR Software, For Any Platform? · · Score: 1

I like BeyondTV for standard Definition TV, but not so much for HD television mapping the QAM channels is a real chore. There are whole threads on the Snapstream forum detailing these issues, but Snapsteam has announced that development for the BeyondTV product is pretty much dead (other than the experimental betas.) I also own a TIVO, and the QAM mapping was all done for me, I just had to turn off the channels I wasn't getting. The other thing about TIVO is that you can use a cable card with it, which, from reading the Snapstream forums, hasn't been done with BeyondTV.

  2. Ericsson did this on Modu Unveils Modular, Transformer-style Phone · · Score: 1

Ericsson did this with their line of phones in the early 2000's. You could snap on an MP3 player, keyboard, and FM radio, or a bluetooth chip. Now however, except for the keyboard and in some models, the FM radio, everything has been integrated into the phone.

The country recently went nuts because Richard Gere kissed a woman on the cheek (face cheek, mind you) going so far as to issue an arrest warrant for the actor:

All I could think reading this article is I wish people devoted this kind of energy, passion, and dedication to their "Real Lives" (TM). The world would be a much better place...

We do, but the Devs^H^H^H^H Supreme Court decided to give BoB^H^H^H Bush T2 BPOs^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H the election, and so we're in the situation we're in now, despite our best efforts. You'd be surprised how many protests aren't being televised, even in liberal places like San Francisco and Berkeley.

At least with Eve we can easily decide not to give them our money. Or our lives, for that matter.

  5. At What Point is it too bad to Play? on CCP Speaks on Allegations of Misconduct in Eve · · Score: 2, Insightful

Even with it's many flaws, I like Eve. I keep hoping CCP does something about this soon (and not just the namby-pamby stuff they've talked about this so far - because I have a lot of friends on Eve, and I'm just getting to the point where having my smaller frigates blown up doesn't hurt so much.

For a game that's been hanging tough while others have fallen by the wayside, this news comes at a bad time. It's already a difficult game for new players to join - I really wouldn't have made it past the newbie stage if I didn't have a lot of advice from people I knew - and now the game makers themselves are found to be conspiring against other players?

  6. Could I add a couple more? on 10 Reasons To Buy a DSLR · · Score: 1
I'm on my second digital camera, which is my first DSLR.

14 - Dust on the sensor. Camera makers are finally getting this, but to date their designs have just been making it more difficult to clean it off. You get a few dust spots, you don't think people will notice it, but they do after seeing three shots in a row. You'll notice it on every shot.

This has happened to me, After exhausting my own options (I used a blower, etc.) I asked Canon if they could clean the sensor; they told me to send it to them, and they'd "let me know" how much it would cost to fix (the guy on the phone said it could be as much as $100. )

15 - Hot Pixels. The longer you own your camera, the more pixels will go bad. Like dust spots, they're not that noticeable at first, but as they accumulate, your pictures will begin to irritate you. My old nikon used to be a lot of fun for night shots, but after a while became less useable.

Granted, they're REALLY nice, and a lot of fun when you first get them. But I do wish that they were more sturdy, easier to clean, and lasted longer than the warranty.
