The first camera to use the new sensor will be the $3,000 Sigma SD9 D-SLR (Sigma lens mount), Kodak have also shown an interest in using the X3 technology.
No, the problem is that Tom got a bunch of $$$ from Microsoft to put this article on his site. I'm halfway through and honestly - WTF? This is MS-propaganda at it's best!
* Lastly, FORGET about any further development about Epoc 6. Oh yeah I was an idiot to believe the rumours about that !!
Huh? Symbian is very much alive and kicking, releasing new versions of Epoc (yeah, 6.0, 6.1 etc) when they're ready - and they're used in products like Ericsson R380, Nokia 9210 and the upcoming Nokia 7650 as a few examples.
You _do_ know that Symbian was created from Psion Software, and that Ericsson, Nokia, Psion, Panasonic and Motorola are co-owners, right? (Now add SonyEricsson to that)
All software engineers know that a bug caused when doing the architecture takes 10 times longer to fix when your designing, or 100 times longer to fix when coding - or 1000 times longer to fix if the product has reached testing/maintenance! Microsoft won't gain much by all of a sudden start doing code-inspections _NOW_ on existing code. Sure, they'll find a lot of bugs and fix them, but that's nothing compared to what they SHOULD (and are?) doing - change the way they're doing architectual and design work!
I rip all the CDs I buy, so that I can transfer the mp3s to work, or just play them through winamp at parties instead of having to switch CDs all the time. Yes, I put the mp3s in my AudioGalaxy shared folder, but that's because it's up to others to judge whether they want to copy them or not.
This is really good. We've had them for a long time, but people don't use them. Now, some say this is no big deal - "why, I've got nothing to hide - I'm not a criminal" etc.
Well. Have you, like I, had an ex-girlfriend who got all her personal files check out (and copied I'm sure) by "friends" who did that when she was in the bathroom/cooking/on the phone etc.. ?
That's why you have them. I archive lots of stuff that really are personal - I don't want others to be able to lay their hands on them. I have my computer on 24/7 and I want to be able to have friends stay there if they need to - even use my Internet connection - and still have my personal data safe.
Encrypted filesystems are great, all that's needed is to make them simpler to use - what's the point in having them if you mount them at boot and leave them open thereafter?;)
I've had PCs since -93 (Atari STs before that) - I liked building my own computer, I liked (!) resolving problems in DOS/Windows configurations etc.
No more. I've got friends with Macs and knowing a thing or two about operating systems I'd pick Mac OS X over Windows any day - and thus I'm now also going to convert from PC/Windows to Apple computers. I seriously hope more and more people will do this, not just those with a techie background that can see through the MS commercials and understand that for what they use their computer for, they really really should go Apple.
Price? Umm. Let's not go there. I'm going for the iMac instead.. I'm not a gamer and can live without the GeForce 4.
So, did you protest then? Most of our assignments were at a level high enough for us to _choose_ what languages and environments to do them in. This was a few years ago, but I would _not_ take up classes today that were so MS specific. I'm a software engineer, working as a consultant on the Symbian OS platform - I use Devstudio (as an IDE only) but that's all the MS I see on this computer..
Oh please... I work with crypto as a consultant and I'm a sci.crypt regular. Don't - just please.. don't:)
When it comes to Israel and the USA, I would - and I really mean this - shoot Sharon if I had the opportunity. Again, open up your eyes:) Stop watching US media - you're so pro-Israel that you're the laughingstock of the rest of the civilized world.
- "Ha! Just Kidding!" memory manager: when an app requests a memory allocation, periodically claim that it has failed for no reason at all. That'll keep 'em laughing forever!
This is built in in debug-mode in the Symbian operating system - if you want. It helps in checking where you've written sloppy code that doesn't handle out-of-memory correctly (about 100% of all code written for desktop-systems actually, but since the Symbian platform is targeting smartphones and communicators it's a lot more important there)
Oh f*ck off.. all civilized beings except americans know your view on firearms is just plain insane.
It's sooo boring seeing all this pro-gun bullshit on Slashdot where you actually expect the adults to have some education and brains.
(Why bother about being down-moderated, some people you manage to tick off with your replies wait until they have moderator status and then find you 5 last posts and give them -1 overrated to "get back".. how lame.. my karma is always around 50 anyway)
"Timesaving" is a cause of RSI. Slow down. You don't need to rush. And I really don't see why you feel you need to tell someone with RSI and who knows how to avoid it what you _think_...
Oh, and the scroll-wheel is a wonderful invention that Apple needs to think about too.
... yeah, we want Mac users to get the same instant RSI problems as PC users have gotten used to.
Really, the scroll-wheel is the first thing to disable on any new computer.
(and of course, don't use a mouse, use a trackball. preferably one that's not operated with one but with both hands. take the time to _switch_ from keyboard to trackball, and back. you're not stressed. really.)
... been there.

New iMac Announced

THANKYOU!
/me - professional software engineer today. was an asm hacker/phreaker/cracker as a teen. never in my life thought I would do anything but build my own PCs.. etc etc.
Now - when going home from work - I just want a computer that looks good, is silent, works, and does what I need [which is nothing really.. web, mail, icq, irc etc].
I'm all hooked on the new iMac. It _will_ replace the PC I currently have.
Percentage-wise we have an extremely high penetration when it comes to being connected to the net and having cellular phones and other forms of high-tech gadgets.
That was indeed MS plans with Microsoft.. something. That thing that was included in Win95:) They talked about dialups from all local regions in the world..
They made a very sharp u-turn when they understood that they wouldn't be able to compete with the Internet as they first thought.

You _did_ ask for "how much"
The first software versions weren't that good - but get one of the updated ones. Improves the plastic quite a bit ;)

I buy more CDs than I download mp3s off the net.

But we all know that Slashdot's moderation system is seriously hurting
[however, Lotus Notes is still 56 bit with the NSA holding 16 bits, right?]
