Automatic popular? Only in the states I guess.. I like control over my car when I drive thankyouverymuch, and I don't know anyone with automatic transmission... (I'm in Sweden)
Reference: I knew Jon Johansson (I actually had the first decss.zip mirror - on his request) and took part in discussions on a secret (wohoo) IRC channel where among other things DeCSS was discussed.
Note to the other ones there who probably don't like what I'm writing: I'm not mentioning anything more than the truth, really, and I am really fed up with this linux-interoperability crap posted regarding DeCSS on slashdot all the time...
DeCSS? Explicitly developed to enable playing DVDs on Open Source computers with DVD drives. It's hardly practical to share full-length movies over networks or even to store them locally on hard drives
DeCSS was explicitly developed to get access to the contents of DVD in a form that could be reprocessed and shared. Yes, I know this, I'm not guessing.
ReMPEG2 - re-encoded an mpeg2 stream to a lower bitrate etc suitable for SVCDs. This was before the popularity of DivX;-)... I know lots of people who download a 2CD SVCD and view that in their DVD-player with only a slightly lower quality than the DVD-original itself. The people behind DeCSS and some other tools used in the beginning all knew this was the goal..
So true - that's why I'm going to import a NGC (I'm in Europe) before this Christmas.
I have a DVD player, I have a computer. I want something to play games on - and the only thing that does exactly that on the market (with fun games) is the GameCube.
Weird. I do recall writing programs on my Atari ST back in 85/86 without ever having been in contact with a PC. I also recall friends doing the same with their Amigas..
Bill Gates? Yeah, heard about him ine the ninetees when I reluctanly bought my first PC.
In a year or so I won't have a desktop computer at home:) I'll have a wireless handheld and some sort of surfboard/console thingie connected to my home-cinema equipment.
There is no PDA-war. Do you really believe PDAs and cellulars will stay as separate devices? If so, you're probably american and don't know what's happening:) Say bye-bye to Microsoft, and Hello to Nokia, Ericsson, Panasonic etc.
Of course it is. Any broad generalisation over a group of people might be ground for rasism. I.e, the issue here is about _terrorists_, not whether they call themselves Muslims, Christians or Jews.
... that blast was considered by some a reason why nuclear bomb testing should be researched more in the US since there was a possibility that the Russians had the technology already back then.
However, the credibility of that claim was a bit low since it was von Däniken who said it;)
Rasism on Slashdot - weee. Not. You're at war with terrorists - no matter their religion. They also consider themselves at war with you, so keep on going... *sigh*
You're right, it was kinda hard to find. However, since I never lie, I just had to find it for you I guess.. it's one of his daily columns, a few days, maybe weeks after the attacks. The link to the _latest_ on is here but I can't seem to find old editions... sorry about that. However, he cited a public poll so I guess the same result should be available elsewhere also.
Sorry, I assumed it would be easy to find old content on cnn.com, if I had known this I would've made a copy of the page for later reference.
(Sweden, where the illiterates voted no to joining the big switch of course
None of my cars have had that, actually.

Oh well, I've been using their product happily in both Win95 and now Win2K for a while

I was indeed talking about Symbian (Epoc) - I worked there before
Microsoft will still sell an OS for desktops, but they'll hardly have anything to say when it comes to the future - wireless handhelds.
Yeah, I do work in the business.
You really don't get the point, right? Do a search on "von Däniken", or read the other comments to my post ... *sigh*
Well _I_ was serious, but since I clearly stated the source to be von Däniken I would've hoped for "+1 funny" instead of "interesting" etc ;)

You _do_ know that christians, jews and moslems all have the same God, right? (Abraham's God)

Really? Actually I still have a few of my old Atari ST freeware programs on disks somewhere .. I'm quite positive I used that term .. this could be fun.
