Amen! And those same rules should be applied to doing any of the above while: drunk, horny, or stupid. That should keep the majority of people in their homes at all times. Of course how often have you heard of anyone doing something violent after smoking a few bowls?
I subscribe to the warn/wait/release philosophy regarding exploits. First, warn the creator of the application that there is a problem. Give them sufficient time to take action based on the information you can provide to them. Ask them to respond to you with their decision and whether they will release a patch in the timeframe you specified. Say the average might be a week or two. It depends on the problem. Wait until their time is up. If they haven't released a patch, or contacted you with a good reason why, then make the exploit public.
Umm.. no. Microsoft *will* be there, so if there's a whistleblower, then it would be handled in whatever way is deemed appropriate by the court. Microsoft is trying to ban the press and public from ALL pretrial depositions. It wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to want to ban the press because of whistleblowers.
Word's structure features are HORRIBLE and break very easily. I'm speaking from experience with Word97. I haven't heard about any improvements since then, and I swore off ever using it for such things again.
The previous poster was claiming that DeCSS was unnecessary for creating DVD copies. I was just stating that it was necessary since consumer DVD writers can't do a bit-for-bit copy. What you're suggesting also requires DeCSS, so it's just another variation of using DeCSS to get the DVD into an easily readable format.
I see no reason why a DVD copy program couldn't just do a bit-copy from one disk to another without breaking the crypto.
Because consumer DVD writers will not burn them correctly. They will not burn the key sector of the DVD, which makes it unplayable in a DVD player. You have to decode the DVD and convert it to Divx to get something useable.
Others have pointed out some possible differences already. I would just like to add that even if you give them the benefit of the doubt on that part, there were still apparently at least several instances of automated voting via some sort of script from Microsoft. They can't explain that away as easily.
I used to work at an HEB grocery store (Texas chain) and they had (WinNT) registers crash now and then. It was pretty much accepted. They'd just move the checker and customers to another register.
I was just pointing out that just because a movie makes money, it doesn't mean that it's not a good movie, which is what both you and the previous poster seemed to be saying. It's quite possible to make a good movie and market it effectively enough for it to be quite profitable.
Oh yeah.. maybe because it's a great movie. Yes, not all movies that make lots of money are great, but you can't just chalk the awards up to the money without asking why it made so much money.

Does it matter? So what if Han shoots first? Greedo is a thug. He'd kill Han without a second thought if there was money in it for him. I think it's stupid that they changed the scene at all.
You could still be held personally accountable for criminal acts. You have to be pretty large, rich, and well connected before you can make those kinds of charges go away. Kinda like Enron.
I wonder how long it will be before Congress patches up that particular oversight. If any of these cases succeed, I'm sure they'll be swimming in cash immediately afterwards, all from big business trying to cover their asses.
So has anyone come up with a way to automatically set that flag to "no macrovision?"

But you can only go see small-time theater groups that sell their own tickets, lest Ticketmaster bend you over and have its way with your bottom.
Tell that to the DMCA.
And do you know of any software that will rip an X-Box DVD game? It won't be anything that existed prior to the X-Box launch.

If Word includes features that make it possible for a user to manage his files with it, then yes, it is the developer's fault if it crashes.

Ok, so it goes to the states then. They build the roads. They make the rules, right?
and arresting = crime, detain = info gather.
And what's the difference to me when I'm sitting in a cell?
Where in the Constitution does it say you have the right to operate a motor vehicle on public roads?

See? Me again. This time I don't get a point. Wow! That's pretty amazing, huh?
Danse
Yes you do. See? I have a point? Now watch as I respond as an anonymous coward and don't get a point. Watch closely now....
(I'd prefer to use the word "liable" for civil liability and something else for criminal acts, but I can't think of a better term.)
I think the word "guilt" is the criminal equivalent of "liable."
