not if there will be different proprietary marketplaces for each handset. at which point entry costs for developer will become a problem.
Sorry, but...could you explain further? I know there are a ton of third-party app stores, but "the" android market is still by far the largest one, and is accessible from pretty much every android handset.
It's not alarmist, it's a logical progression. We can't keep pumping shit into the atmosphere and water supplies thinking it won't have some major cumulative effect down the road. Again, that day is far off (likely after everyone reading this is dead). We are still well within a window to do something about it, but eventually it will reach a point where we can't fix it. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather do something about it now rather than scramble to do something about it once it's almost too late/is too late.
It's foolish to think we aren't affecting the environment, while at the same time it's foolish to think we're going to turn into a fireball in the very near future. We obviously need to do something, otherwise one day it WILL get real bad...but that isn't going to happen tomorrow.
I'd like to think many people out there share that belief, but the crazies on both sides are too loud to tell if that's the case.
Because somehow the "jailbreak" vernacular has replaced every instance of "hacking" when restrictions are involved. I know why it was called "jailbreaking", but just like with the phrase "apps", it didn't become widespread common usage applied to nearly everything until it involved Apple products. That does not make sense.
Note: yes I'm aware that the phrase "app" has been used for a long time, but again, it wasn't in widespread common usage, applied to almost every piece of software, until the App Store.
They do retain a (very slowly loosening) iron grip on the enterprise market though...a big money maker (and future) to be sure.
Granted, that has nothing to do with the kind of stuff TFA is talking about, but having a hand in the infrastructure that will make all that cool stuff actually useful is nothing to sneeze at.
Never said they were evil, just hypocritical...just like every other right-leaning and left-leaning news org.
The reason Fox gets so much flak is because it bills itself as being "fair and balanced", when it is neither. MSNBC says "We're full of shit. What're you gonna do about it?" There's no difference in their presentation or intention...the only difference is one admits it and one attempts to paint itself as the opposite of what it is.
I can fully understand people not wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 due to hardware/driver constraints or program compatibility...but if neither of these things are problems, I say why not? Windows 7 is much more user friendly and easier to navigate (not to mention much more stable and secure, in my experience.)
::shrug:: people are stupid in weird ways...a mother may be capable of raising a child to adulthood without getting it killed, yet will inevitably forget the kid in the car at least once.
We (my "main" circle of friends) discussed this very topic once after watching BttF 2. We concluded that anyone smart enough to create a working time machine (especially one that didn't turn its occupant into goop) was smart enough to do the mathematical calculations.::shrug::
For what I make, I'd take a crappy set of headphones over a nice set of speakers any day. The way textures are layered and placed, a LOT of the directional dynamics rely on having speakers strapped over or in your ears.
You can listen to my stuff on "regular" speakers, but it will just sound like a muddled mess. I enjoy playing with textures and their placement on the soundfield (as well as how they overlap or are overlapped by other sounds)...because of this, headphones are the only way to go by default. I don't apply this line of thinking to all music, just the music I put together:)
Nice, I'll be sure to check it out when I get home! I love discovering "at-home" musicians...most of what I listen to nowadays is made by people like that.
That's exactly why I make it, though! It's not impossible, but finding the kind of stuff that I like can be quite a chore. I finally broke down and decided to just make it myself. I played Clarinet, French Horn, and Piano when I was younger, so I already understand music theory and structure...all I had to do was learn how to use the tools, and away I went!
Besides, considering what I like to listen to is such a small niche, I felt I should contribute something back to the subculture that has given me so much.

The way textures are layered and placed, a LOT of the directional dynamics rely on having speakers strapped over or in your ears. You can listen to it through regular speakers just fine, but you'll be missing out on a LOT of the details...even on a high-end set (again, it's all about layering and positioning.)
Thanks! That's basically why I do it...it's something that I really enjoy. I make music that I personally want to listen to. While there aren't many people that share my tastes, there are at least some out there:-)
I'd suggest starting with the "Lost on the Way to the Laundry" stuff (only two tracks up there at the moment)...it's the most accessible.
One other thing: be sure to listen to it with headphones! It's been mixed with that intention...you can use "regular" speakers, but a lot of the dynamics are lost.
Here you go. Look in the "shout" section for a link to the torrent.
It's all a combination of spacey ambient ("Transient Unknown" project), drone ("Implied Reality" project), and chilled-out head nodding stuff ("Lost on the Way to the Laundry" project). I have a LOT more than what is on there, but that's what I've publicly released so far.

What are you referring to?

There are genuine conservative philosophies and genuine progressive ones
I completely agree...that's why I said "most" in my OP.
There was this. Granted, that's in an advertisement, but still...
And I'm not hypocritical. I despise all of the major news services, something I indicated in my OP.
Note that it wasn't Fox News that did that...it was News Corp, the company that owns Fox News.
Not that it makes it any better.
Never said they were evil, just hypocritical...just like every other right-leaning and left-leaning news org.

But...b-b-b-but....manufacturing and surveillance jobs!
Like most right-leaning orgs and people, Fox is insanely hypocritical.
Then again, so are most left-leaning orgs and people, too...so...yeah.
...but Blizzard knows what we are waiting for: a release date. Get on that, Bliz!
I can't freakin' STAND KDE. I never really understood the appeal of it...just seemed like a convuluted mess to me.
I can fully understand people not wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 due to hardware/driver constraints or program compatibility...but if neither of these things are problems, I say why not? current accepted theory is the universe is expanding (at least the part we're in).
That's something else we've discussed: If the universe is expanding, what's it expanding over???

Why do I need 1080p in something less than 5 inches?
Marketability.
