Not sure if I would agree with Minesweeper having a larger audience, however you are certainly correct in that Minesweeper also transcends gaming skill much in the same way as Tetris. I stand (sit?) corrected.
Tetris, to me, is the ultimate video game. It can be played by anyone ranging from someone who doesn't even know what a video game is all the way to competitive level hardcore pros.
No other video game in history has that kind of audience. The fact that, although variations on the original have been released, the most popular version is still the original version (which has remain mostly untouched throughout its existence) just gives more credit to its simplistic genius.
You really think most people know their Fat PS3 could have used Linux at one point? The average person doesn't even know what Linux is, much less knowing they could install it on their PS3...
Yeah, because Amazon (who provided the refund) benefited from the TARP funds. Geez dude, get a grip on reality and stop using talking points for every conversation. This has nothing at all to do with politics...take that malarky elsewhere.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are a LOT of people out there who were using this capability...I just mean the people who had no idea they could even do this suddenly demanding a refund.
Why is it that I always see this argument ("get us off this dying planet") coming from the people who seem to have the least knowledge of the planet's history and life's history on this planet?
I said "slowly dying"...which, given the way we are affecting things (I don't mean global warming, I mean pollution), it is not out of the realm of possibility that Earth won't be able to sustain human life in a few thousand years. Regardless of pollution, we will also eventually use up all of the available resources on this planet, which means unless we have the technology to live on (or at the very least collect resources from) other planets, we will be screwed. The kind of technology necessary to move or collect resources isn't going to be developed overnight, which is why we need to start now.
Why is it that when people make assumptions about others around here, they almost always post those assumptions as an AC? Sack up and log in.
Agreed that this isn't anything that will need to happen soon...but we have to start developing the technology and methods that will eventually lead to it at some point, so why not now?
If we took half the money we spend killing people and instead used it to research space flight, we would be MUCH further along at this point.
Eventually getting us off this slowly dying rock? Doy? Extinction WILL eventually happen if we stay here...the sooner we get out into the stars, the greater the chance our species has for surviving.
Of course, the counter to that argument is that we've fucked up Earth so badly, is it really a good idea to inflict ourselves on the rest of the planets out there...
I don't see how anyone with a dial-up connection could do even casual browsing anymore...most websites nowadays push the 750k-1MB size, if not even bigger. (my own website linked in my sig is even guilty of this, despite my best efforts to keep things minimalistic)
$20 says this idea was cooked up by someone who heard about "cloud computing" on the radio while in his cushy office, signing official looking papers and making a big fuss about "revenue".
Ah, the version number thing (as pointed out by other posters in reply to my OP.) Thanks for the clarification!
Uh...is that a typo or something? Office FIFTEEN???
Come on...not everyone that uses Windows regularly plays Minesweeper.
Good points, all :-)
As an avid Tetris player, I must inquire when it is that one is given the "competitive level hardcore pro" title in Tetris?
My definition would be when one starts to compete in tournaments...hence the "competitive level" and "pro" sandwiching the "hardcore" label.

Yes, but like checkers, just about ANYONE with basic cognitive functions can play Tetris...the concept itself very easy to understand.
A minute to learn, a lifetime to master comes to mind...

I RTFA, and maybe I just missed it...but did they detail how they caught the guy?
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are a LOT of people out there who were using this capability...I just mean the people who had no idea they could even do this suddenly demanding a refund.
Cue the complainers who didn't even know their PS3 Fat could do this in the first place.

Then we're all named Sparticus.
Duh.
Dish isn't SO bad...it's useless if you do online gaming because of the latency, but for general browsing it's passable.
At the very least, it's a hell of a lot better than plain ol' dialup :/
Trine supports same-screen multiplayer gaming on a PC...and it's AWESOME.
I know the guy is widely respected in gaming circles, but...is there anyone out there other than me that can't stand most of his gaming work?
I sure wouldn't. Why were they going to go with yahoo in the first place?

They seriously need to stop trying to be like America...it's hazardous to their well-being :/

If there isn't any Old Bay on there, it's a waste of time.
I mean, french fries without Old Bay...why don't you just cut my nuts off while you're at it? :)
