Yes, but we hope that the design time for HD modelling won't force a reduction in game quality, and that pulling processing power away from the AI won't similarly decrease gameplay. To put it another way, would you rather watch Return of the King on (NTSC) TV or Gigli in HD?

My mother occasionally mentions the time she read in the news (or somewhere) that at the Skunkworks, designers were trying so hard to remove excess weight from new aircraft (SR-71?) that engineers were paid a $10k bonus for each pound they were able to design out. She naturally wrote a letter to Lockheed with a three word suggestion she estimated to be worth $300k at that rate -- "use women pilots."

Surprisingly enough, she never got a response...

"Quickcam?" With the framerates you'd need for good control, why not just use a tiny TV camera? They can be had with transmitter for $250-$500, depending on size, broadcast power, and BW/color. If you still want it on your laptop to control via keyboard & mouse, use a TV tuner card.
Personally, if I were building one of these, I'd have a camera on it anyway, and try to get the broadcast company to sponsor me (these beasts are not cheap). -- Joel

At Arizona State University, incoming Physics TA's (and presumably those from other disciplines) from non-English-speaking countries were required to be paper-checkers only for their first semester. They were required to take some kind of English course, and finish with a basic exam to make sure they could at least communicate. It wasn't foolproof, however, as one of the second-year TA's, who was Chinese, could barely make herself understood, while a first-year TA from India who had English nearly as good as mine (Iowa) was relegated to pushing papers.

Of course, this is the same school where my students, primarily engineering majors, were aghast that I would actually take off points in their Physics lab reports for poor use of English. My reasoning was that handing in a report like some I received to a superior in corporate America would most likely result in immediated termination. It was interesting to note that one Chinese student (fresh off the plane) had better written English than most of the American students, though the same could not be said for her spoken English.

I remember getting this one, and passing it on to the other computer guys at my last job. One of them forwarded it to his mother. He came into my office a few days later, and told me that his mother said I owed her a new fridge. It seems immediately after reading the posting, her fridge died.
    Coincidence? I think not.
