    it's very easy to update your kernel...
    only download the patch and move it to /usr/src
    go to your kernel folder (let's say it's at /usr/src/linux) and do this :
    bunzip2 ../patch-2.6.21.bz2 && make && make install && make modules_install
    it will ask you questions about the new features and you will answer y, n or m (module). if you don't know what to answer, press enter.
    restart + good luck.

    KVM in kernel speaking topic means the kernel module recently added (at 2.6.19 or in 2.6.20, I'm not sure) which means : Kernel based Virtual Machine

    You thought it's another KVM which means Keyboard Video Mouse when KVM controller means a controller that allows you to switch between computers with the same Keyboard Screen and Mouse with a click that will be recognized by the KVM controller to switch computer.
    What I don't understand is, how you got karma bonus the the silly comment you've posted when I'm getting always modded down and now my Karma is very very negative :P good day sir.

    Do you remember 2 years ago, April 1st, 2004.
    Google had announced that they will offer 1GB email, and the size will continue to increase? You've probably forgotten, and you might even didn't believe them... 1GB e-mail, for free?! and it's April 1st, it had to be a joke.
    Now, after we actually know it was real, and most of us hold a gmail account, we believe it was real.
    Today, April 1st, they have announced this, and you know what? I believe them, maybe it's a little bit different, it's not in our plumbings \ whatever, but I believe it exists and I'd more then happy to use that service!

    Google, once again, had shown that they are taking care of the man-kind, or atleast, we, the nerds, in the human population.

    a. don't load all the modules on startup, there's no need! load only modules that you actually use!
    b. don't DHCPCD every startup
    c. don't run xserver on startup, simply type startx, there are lot's of times that you don't even need gui so there's no need to load it
    d. run e2fsck if it makes problems and writing that there are problems with certain inodes every boot.
    e. don't load on xserver everything you don't need! for example : you don't need gaim to be on your startup every time you open kde.
    f. load direct rending driver so your gui will load (and play) faster. (I had some problems with it cause I've forgotten to load amd64-agp, I hope some people can gain something from this post and actually load it). +5 insightful.

    Archive.org crawler isn't a heavy traffic for a site, is just as a regular surfer who surfs to every page. Like she can't sue a surfer which comes to a site and surf in every page and saves every page, she can't sue Archive.org.

    A theft? How can gaining information which is given to anyone, a theft?
    All she's trying to do, in my opinion, is not to gain any right or justice, but gaining money! $$$.

    I will consider running a vista only if they pay me for the computer I will trash using vista, and it must be laptop cause I wouldn't use it at home anyway (Linux>Win, you all know that), so they need to pay me 1000$ a year or so.

    One day, a vulnerability had been found in Microsoft Word and what did Microsoft commented? They have announced everyone not to open Word documents from people you don't know (duh?!) un-till they will patch it (the patch came only 2 weeks later!).
    Their answer made me out of my mind, people can harm my computer because of a security bug in their software, and they can't fix it in the same day/day after?

    By the way, after I've switched to linux, I've found out more of its advantages and stayed till this day, if you didn't switch yet, you should try it A.S.A.P google "linux distribution download" for download links.
    More secure, More Stable, More Free == better --> USE LINUX!

    If it's actually a brute-force, it's only time until a hacker with bot-net / 65000 zombies will give anyone of his zombies this program to bruteforce it and report on good keys... soon enough he will hold something like 6500 keys (lets say, 1 week?) and he will post these 6500 keys on notepad / program for serials.
    Really easy, cause in-fact if this program actually tries to brute-force Vista key, it's only a matter of time until a computer finds a key.

    But then again, WHO CARES?, I will keep using Linux (Slackware) anyway, why should I downgrade to Vista

    I had thought the bigger problem would be the P2P file sharing (bittorrent, emule,...) which takes much bigger bandwidth then GOOGLE VIDEO nor you-tube.
    let's calculate a bit, let's say I've downloaded 1 movie which is dual DVD-r, which is 8.6 GB, if an average movie weighs in you tube 1mb, it means that I will need to watch 8600 movies in you-tube just to take 8.6GB of internet bandwith. so why you think youtube/google vid would be any problem to net's bandwidth?!

    This guy had found these security flaws which can only be good for us the users, cause it will be fixed.
    Imagine a malicious user had found the same bugs and wanted to use it against us, the users, it would have been very very bad, and now this malicious user must work harder on his new holes.

    There can't be an OS which you'll have to be root to actually be able to do something.
    Try to run win XP and see if you can get along with it without root permissions for one day.
    The programmers concept for windows is just wrong! you can not require root privileges to run Acrobat Reader, Adobe Photoshop or who knows what
    For that matter, try to get along with regular user on Linux, you'll be able to do so (and you'll stay of-course), why? cause Linux was built in as Multi user OS, un-like Windows in which you have to be root to install un-related stuff which you can't even think of why it requires root permissions.

    The lesson is, that most of programmers of big companies are basing their programs on the fact that 95% of Windows users runs as Admins.
    And also, the whole concept of multi-users is in-fact okay, but the implementation, dir oh lord, is just wrong.

    That's why Windows Security just sucks. no matter what

    Do what feels good, switch to Linux

    Linux do needs Torvalds, like you have said he's the main part of the Kernel, and the whole Linux world at all.
    GNOME people have the chance of choosing whether to accept those patches or not, and each user will do what good for him but not to calm Torvald around.
    Torvald in-fact showed here that he actually cares about GNOME community in the sending patches way of acting he actually improved him-self the best way he actually could

    Therefore I think

    we really need him, even if he isn't always the nicest person around ;) that he's actually one of the nicest person around the world. No one else would have reacted the same way.

    Maybe they didn't have patch their WINDOWS and got BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)
    Which is quite funny... cause I've never seen a dedicated computer running Linux which crashed due to Kernel Panic

    Google is doing its best afford so no one else will gain from Google's popularity, as a result no one else will get information about users and will do wrong stuff with it.

    e.g : google is trying to buy gooogle.xyz or g.xyz (mistake intended) domains so no one will make profit of users who had fallen into these sites with the information they enter.
    so, in one hand, it looks good, Google, spends money to save users from giving private information to malicious people, but maybe, and just maybe
    according to this article, they spend that money in-order to gain more information?!

    think about it... i hope it's all conspiracy
