Actually... here we go again... In Europe kids are exposed to sexuality at a young age. It's also notable that you can turn on the TV and not see violence as well as sexual devency as opposed to the USA where you are guaranteed to see rape, incest, sexual aggression, etc etc. Europeans are usually quite shocked by American "entertainment". As long as you don't see tits everything is fine, right?

  2. Re:Linux 2.4 changes... on Linux 2.3.46 Released Unto the World · · Score: 1

My favorite change going into 2.4 is the halving of the filesystem caching structures. Instead of a read buffer and a write buffer, there is a single buffer. That makes the buffering data files use far less memory. Systems like mine will benefit greatly from this because the key to good performance at my site is getting all the game files in memory to avoid the awful penalty of disk IO. ;)

What!? There wasn't a single buffer all this time? That's scary. Yes, this should speed up disk performance quite a bit. Yay. Anyone know the state of the nfs code, is it still god awful?

With filth like this passing as "entertainment" these days, it's no wonder that kids are shooting each other in schools. We are heading in the wrong direction. Unless this country gets back to the morals on which it was founded, there are some awfully dark days ahead. Farting and swearing for the whole song? It boggles the mind. If you find this "entertaining", I suggest you get help.

Yes we should all go back the 50s when everyone one was a good god-fearing moron and there was no Jerry Springer, only freaks in the closet, bottled up like old champagne. Ok, so let's go further to when our country was founded. Let's get back to the morals of our founder, George Washington, who was not a christian - he did not believe in Jesus. Yes, let's ditch Christianity like our founder.

I wonder what you'd say if we found out George Washington "had" interns.

Anyway, this is getting off topic.

Don't tell me- MS is simply exercising it's right to not incriminate themselves! Why do you need log files n stuff when your OS is so reliable?

Actually, as this site says, EBay runs on a pair of E10K (upto 64 processors and 64 GB of ram. woohoo. ;-) for the backend and some NT boxes on the front-end. I remember talking to our local Sun SE after the EBay incidents, and he had stated that EBay was not installing critical patch updates and wasn't listening to their Sun techs. If that's truly the case, then it's interesting that MS put that as an example. I doubt they want bad implementations of NT pointed out to them in a public forum. *grin*

I work for a company which makes software used by the largest ISPs you can think of(except AOL)... We support all the major commercial UNIX platforms. We have _mandatory_ patch levels for each platform. The reason is some patches are just plain buggy. We have good contacts to each OS company so we can usually find the latest and bug-free patches through our (inside) contacts without a hassle . This is important because our software typically runs with >1000 threads (per process + it is distributed, mult. server types...) so if there are any bugs in a patch we are usually the first to know. Sun, Compaq, SGI, etc. love us.

We have proven that assuming you have the right patch levels, unix is extremely stable. We will never support NT because it's unreliable, you have to reboot frequently, .01 support for remote access, and our customers don't want it. We support platforms as our customers request them. We may port to Linux soon which will be a huge win for Linux. ;-)

  9. Katz proves his intelligence once again on Review: Man On The Moon · · Score: 1

Katz, I don't rag on you usually - I mostly watch others do it, but here is my turn.

Andy Kaufman was great in that he apealed to high humor - innuendos, human behavior, mass group think, irony. Jim C, on the other hand, deals mainly with slapstick. A whole different type of humor. Andy Kaufman aimed for a gut laugh not the silly oh-he's-so-cute-and-silly laugh which Jim C. aims for.

I saw a clip of Andy Kaufman reading pages and pages of The Great Gatsby from the beginning. After awhile the audience booed. Andy told the audience to not be so rude there is still a long way to go. This is a form of situational comedy.

Also his wrestling spree was an attempt to delve into human behavior - creating a villan, worse than Iago of Shakespear's Othello. Not anything fake like wrestlers of today but a man who seemed on and off camera a villan - he hated women and everyone was convinced of that except for Andy Kaufman.

The movie did not do Andy Kaufman justice, once again your review is flawed. It didn't catch Andy Kaufman's attempt at discovering what entertainment is. It was a shallow attempt to discover Andy Kaufman and reminds one of a bad 6th grade report on flamingos.

I got most of my information from the web and from a documentary I saw on Andy Kaufman. Obviously Katz once again didn't do his homework and his mental capacities sure as hell didn't help. Please, fire Katz before his moronic posts do any more damange.

The trick is moving there and working... you will first have to find a company that will give you a visa... require that they get a 15% authorization from the U.S. - there is an agreement between the U.S. and Holland where u pay 15% taxes in U.S., 5% (for first fl. 70,000(US $45,000)) annual, 50-60% after that... But you must have the written paperwork.

Companies for sponsoring u? Try IT consulting, that is huge.... products are created in the US, consulting is done in Europe, it's a sad fact of life. But you can still do development when consulting. Look at Cambridge Technology Partners, maybe Anderson Consulting, etc... avoid KPMG-CT.

Holland is an awesome place to live... much better than the U.S. If you can move there you will really enjoy it.
