Readers should consider two other apps: Bloom and NANO were created by musicians as a means to engage new fans, and also to provide an interactive experience that is true to the medium. These apps are themselves abstract compositions.

In some regards, digital distribution sites and indie advertising channels allow musicians to circumvent record labels and get their music to the consumer. Is there a good site for musicians to use in place of a publisher to facilitate placement of music in TV/film - or is a publisher's "pitching" still critical?
An acquaintance found some of my music in a porn with Pamela Anderson and Brett Michaels. Another adult film used the same track. My friends can only troll so much of teh interwebs to satiate their...needs. I would pay geek squad a buck for each place they found my music illegally inserted (eh, sorry) without my permission. Geek squad = distributed search algorithm for music placement....
I can completely empathize with the ease of writing without a drummer but the pain of performing without one....double edged sword! Seems similar in some respects to Trent writing all the NIN material and having to gear up with a live crew for the tours....
It's a bummer to see people settling for the low bit rate MP3s when some of us are trying to steer fans towards higher data rates. For my upcoming releases I will be putting out DVDs, ie 96khz/24-bit data instead of 44.1khz/16-bit CDs. I'm hoping that if that data fidelity difference between iTunes MP3 and CD isn't enough to make people buy the physical goods (which I think is still a better experience with liner art etc) the DVD-audio clarity and visual ambiance on the DVD will help turn some more sales....
I recently completed my MS in CS, will post additional materials if anyone is interested. I used genetic algorithms to alter the look of JOGL generated visuals in my thesis "Aesthetic Emergence in Synesthetic Sculptures". Here are two batches, each with a few variations:
The wires 'weave' according to evolved vector fields - the finished product will use the vector fields in addition to 3D geometry from a Point Grey stereoscopic camera to sculpt the musicians in my band, with the animation modulated by MIDI events and other items.
Thanks for the ideas and leads...will have to check out CSU up the road - between Darrell Whitley and the EEG work that's two compelling reasons to make the drive for collaboration:-)

HAI CTU - Oh teh nos! My limz r pwned! I can has bkup? KTHXBYE -Jack
Agreed - even without DRM MP3s are so horrible at most bitrates common at the legal download sites. I encourage anyone who buys my music to buy CDs.
