  1. Bloom and NANO on Bands Bypass iTunes With iPhone Apps · · Score: 1

Readers should consider two other apps: Bloom and NANO were created by musicians as a means to engage new fans, and also to provide an interactive experience that is true to the medium. These apps are themselves abstract compositions. DISCLAIMER: NANO is the fruit of my studio. LINK: http://www.rustcycle.com/nano

  2. Necessity for a publisher? on Ask a Studio Head How To Get Into the Movie Business · · Score: 1

In some regards, digital distribution sites and indie advertising channels allow musicians to circumvent record labels and get their music to the consumer. Is there a good site for musicians to use in place of a publisher to facilitate placement of music in TV/film - or is a publisher's "pitching" still critical?

  3. At a concert near you.... on Laser Triggers Electrical Activity In Thunderstorm · · Score: 1

Time to upgrade my band's lighting / strobe rig ;-D

  4. OH HAI can you find my music? on How Best Buy Tried To Whip The Geek Squad Into Shape · · Score: 1

An acquaintance found some of my music in a porn with Pamela Anderson and Brett Michaels. Another adult film used the same track. My friends can only troll so much of teh interwebs to satiate their...needs. I would pay geek squad a buck for each place they found my music illegally inserted (eh, sorry) without my permission. Geek squad = distributed search algorithm for music placement....

  5. Nvidia + Evolved Machines on Student Maps Brain to Image Search · · Score: 1

Crap article - and it sounds as if this fellow should put in a resume to Evolved Machines - http://www.evolvedmachines.com/

An Nvidia spot....*drum roll*....featuring neural simulations on GPUs

  6. live drums.... on The Technology of They Might Be Giants · · Score: 1

I can completely empathize with the ease of writing without a drummer but the pain of performing without one....double edged sword! Seems similar in some respects to Trent writing all the NIN material and having to gear up with a live crew for the tours....

  7. SMS pr0n on iPhone Bill a Whopping 52 Pages Long · · Score: 1

At least with the details of my bill I can prove I only SMS teh naughtiness with my fiance during my lunch hour...

  8. Pre-DVD era.... on Does Going Digital Mean Missing Music? · · Score: 1

It's a bummer to see people settling for the low bit rate MP3s when some of us are trying to steer fans towards higher data rates. For my upcoming releases I will be putting out DVDs, ie 96khz/24-bit data instead of 44.1khz/16-bit CDs. I'm hoping that if that data fidelity difference between iTunes MP3 and CD isn't enough to make people buy the physical goods (which I think is still a better experience with liner art etc) the DVD-audio clarity and visual ambiance on the DVD will help turn some more sales....

  9. VJ material with JOGL on Computer Graphics With Java · · Score: 1

I recently completed my MS in CS, will post additional materials if anyone is interested. I used genetic algorithms to alter the look of JOGL generated visuals in my thesis "Aesthetic Emergence in Synesthetic Sculptures". Here are two batches, each with a few variations:

The wires 'weave' according to evolved vector fields - the finished product will use the vector fields in addition to 3D geometry from a Point Grey stereoscopic camera to sculpt the musicians in my band, with the animation modulated by MIDI events and other items.

  10. LOLimplants on CA Bill Limits Skin Implantation of RFID Chips · · Score: 1

HAI CTU - Oh teh nos! My limz r pwned! I can has bkup? KTHXBYE -Jack

  11. MP3s without DRM - Still teh sucky MP3s... on DRM Free Music is Everywhere · · Score: 1

Agreed - even without DRM MP3s are so horrible at most bitrates common at the legal download sites. I encourage anyone who buys my music to buy CDs.

  12. Thanks! on Inexpensive EEG Devices? · · Score: 1

Thanks for the ideas and leads...will have to check out CSU up the road - between Darrell Whitley and the EEG work that's two compelling reasons to make the drive for collaboration :-)
