actually most apps end up slow because of poor UI. Brains are slower than cpu's so an app that asks more of the brain will end up with a slower end result.
media center pc's. yes that is something we don't hear from mac vs pc ads hmm....maybe because macs can't be used as a personal DVR. Not even iTV. What about the xbox 360? come on you know you want it. PC gaming? oh not a word from the competition.
windows is easier to use than linux and runs on more hardware than mac. It's not so hard to understand. Windows satisfies both requirements reasonably well enough which is why it is #1.
most people use windows not because of any loyalty but it gets the job done. It has all the apps and no sacrifice. It's what comes with the PC. You have to give up a lot if you switch to other platforms so advocates have to turn up the emotions when they come up short.
Israel has a pretty high birth rate for an industrialized nation and they are unfortunately also beholden to microsoft. Lots of israeli websites are IE only
I don't really think it is a problem if Microsoft gives a better deal to its own customers. Apple isn't penalized for not selling Windows and they are doing much better than any other OS besides windows. that's really the way to go. Come up with a linux "mac" instead of expecting the pc's to 'think different'

they don't need to turn linux into vista. All they need to do is kill redhat with their own OS. The way to do it is to fork all of linux, x, gnome, etc and call it Microsoft Linux. Unify everything. Of course it would still be gpl. But Microsoft would be the one stop shop for all your enterprise linux needs - they'd be in complete control of the direction and the companies would go for it. Then they'd port closed source apps such as IIS to only work with their version of linux. Maybe their compiler too so that MS Linux would be faster and even MS linux code with gcc wouldn't match it.
Regular linux would still be around but it won't make any money for anyone. if redhat can make money from another OS, well there's no way microsoft will allow that.
there's one problem. while a vast legion of nerds may be able to compete on technical merit, nobody has figured out how to out-style Mac. Apple *is* Hollywood these days.

I remember the Amiga tv commercials and print ad spreads in Newsweek and Time. The Pointer Sisters! ahhh those days...
To me, the day that Amiga died wasn't when Commodore fell apart. It was when I saw a picture in Byte Magazine of an Amiga 3000 running unix in 16 color grayscale. This wasn't the Amiga of cool demos, games and Toasters. This was just another boring computer. And who cares about that?

yes but AmigaOS 4 is a closed source OS on a closed nonexistent system and a cpu that even Apple ran away from. So as dumb as commodore was, this tops the cake.
If it wasn't for firefox, every website would only work on IE for windows. Nobody is going to redesign their IE only websites just for safari but they will consider firefox. The web has for everybody and Firefox is a web browser for everybody. I mean if you're going to be such a UI snob then you shouldn't be on the web at all because *nobody* on the web follows Apple HIG. Not even Apple fan sites.
maybe they could show the imac doing something fun like playing Crysis unlike those boring pc's that can only do black and white spreadsheets.

just like UNIX!
I thought all the liberals said they'd move to canada after Bush's re-election.

to figure out if your kid is typing your address and phone number so that he doesn't give it away to sick people.
It's called open source. 500 years we'll still be able to use it.

hmm not if you're a linux guy because you like free, open source software that can run on anything.
