I would be interested to try out Mac OS X if it could run on my pc. It can't, I'm not interested in a whole new computer (and an extra copy of Windows) so forget it.
we had a Great Wall for many years called the Ocean. If it wasn't for that, the nazis would have invaded the US. You know, some people are just sick and evil and won't care how much money and pleasantries you throw at them. Sometimes you just have to kill them. Sucks, but that's life.
lots of people are opposed to giving vaccines to their kids. They are opposed to losing weight, exercising and giving up junk food. More health care won't make much of a difference when most people are obese and people are now getting diseases we eliminated years ago.
Governments rarely choose anything that makes economic sense. I don't want FOSS to be compared to the $600 toilet seat or the "Big Dig." I'm more impressed when FOSS software is chosen because it actually makes sense and not as some part of political agenda.
actually what microsoft really wants is for linux and the oss community to fork. And it will fork because a lot of people don't want gpl3 and a lot of people do.
yes but not in the way that gnome and kde are competing DE's. The competing kernels are still basically linux and Linus is leading the way. If it included a DE, you wouldn't have kde and gnome wars. You'd just have linux and some patched DE's for special purposes because there is no need to make a whole new DE with a full set of apps for that DE.
it's interesting how even an old palm V on a dragonball cpu can do more real work than an iphone with all its power and "OSX". It's all about the openness.
what would happen if there were competing linux kernels? See, at least there is a standard linux kernel that everyone uses. Now, if Linus had a wider scope and linux wasn't just the kernel but everything else as well, we probably wouldn't see major differences. Sure you wou'd still see experimentation but they would be minor footnotes. You wouldn't have kde apps and gnome apps. you'd see "linux" apps and a few proof of concept "linux plus" apps.
Linux isn't doing well in the desktop market because it wasn't designed to be for desktops. It was designed to be a great server, the big linux players Redhat and Novell are focusing it to be a great server and linux has dominated in the server market.
oh come on. macs aren't "immune" to malware. They are just out of the radar screen of virus writers. You are basically paying for the fact that few people use macs.
Macs are basically pc's that can run Macosx. Now they have the same cpu, same components...it's not like it used to be when they used ppc, scsi and nubus. Technically any pc should be able to run macosx but apple locks the OS so that only their pc's will.
A majority of people who believe in evolution also believe in UFO's and the idea if you tax people more, the government makes more money and we are all better off.
"So far it has been tested with... and even chocolate and icing."
I can only imagine what pastry chefs will do with this. Seriously...you're going to see some pretty cool looking tasty stuff at high end restaurants
In general, Microsoft doesn't believe in using other code. I personally don't care what microsoft does with IE as long as Mozilla makes firefox better. ok so IE7 has tabs and better css? ok so firefox will have other new features. If they don't then they won't deserve to beat IE....but I'm betting they will.

but you would like to think that if you're paying for a new OS, you'd get to use more of your hardware.
Bill Gates can run Apple...to the ground. unfortunately for apple, Bill gets paid for doing just that
"As for Microsoft Outlook... who uses it these days anyway? I sure as hell don't." Fat chance if you think iphone will sync with linux apps
you get 50% discount but they sell off your soul to satan.
Apache is not macos. Apache is completely open source and macs aren't
most people don't want 1 gig just to run vista. they want the ram to be used for apps instead

problem: expert systems are designed by humans.

you sound surprised that Democrats are in favor of restricting freedom?

those are the books we want kids to read anyway. I don't expect Literature classes to teach the works of Tom Clancy or Stephen King

This is even better news for other OS's such as BSD, Haiku and Syllable. At least linux has the drivers but think about the others
