Corpratism is new ethics, and it doesn't surprise me one bit that a journalist would say that taking the job is ethical. Journalism is no longer the "Fourth Estate" and is now firmly embedded in the corporate structures that pay them, and just about anyone in that situation will end up telling you that anything that benefits the corporation is the right thing to do.
You're naive. It doesn't matter if you can get popular support of something in the U.S., the insurance industry will stomp it out in Congress. It's obvious that a large part of the health care crisis and other crises in this country are caused by the Insurance industry. And, as we already mentioned, the insurance companies aren't living up to their contracts in so many instances. Corporations are in control of Congress not the people and thinking that "the people" can change it through political will right now is being delusional.
Oh no... clearly the majority of people in the US are contented idiots or just more concerned about themselves and their lawns. Most people I know wouldn't care if half their city blew up as long as there was still food at the grocery store. It's why basically the powerful can do what they want... there isn't a knowledgeable base or voters to stand up and fight and make sure someone who really wants to lead the country and not use office as a chance to line their pockets with corporate cash. (And even if these imbeciles in Congress aren't getting paid right now, they will get a paid off down the road with a cushy job or the like. They are ALL getting paid by corporate cash now or later.)
It's not her, it's our one-party political climate. Both parties are corporatist and if you get rid of her there are about a million corporate latkeys ready to take her place.
I think what was meant was that it is illegal because it is using characters that are under copyright outside of the GPL. I don't see any reason that one can release the source code but keep characters used in the story under a stricter copyright.
If you use essentially the same source code but change the characters and situations and story, then you would have a legal work.
There was a time when I was huge Apple fan. Basically because they didn't have the arrogance problem that Microsoft has had for 20 years now.
Apple doesn't seem to feel accountable to anyone any more. This is another great example where they don't even think they have to answer their email messages. Another lesser known example that I've had to deal with is with ITunes. They've had a major error in ITunes for many versions now where it calls a malformed URL. It calls out to "http://itunes.com." (with an extra dot). This kills programs like Dan's Guardian. (I work with kids, a filter is mandated on me). However, they have simply closed the case every time it is brought up. They're too arrogant to even do a search for a malformed URL in the code and correct it.
I have limited my business with Apple because of this. They have decided to fight MS by becoming them.
I don't get it. WHY THE HELL are you going to vote for him when you know he doesn't represent what you want out of government?
Go in to vote, but write in "None of the Above."
I've done this myself in last year's election and was going to in 2008, but I was naive enough to believe that Obama was going to stand up to some of the corporatists that are throttling this country to death. I am going to campaign for "None of the Above" if it comes to that, Palin or no Palin. If people actually had the nerve to stand up and throw the system into chaos because the choices are unacceptable maybe we would see some real alternatives... I know, more naivety.

Do you know what is ON the scales of justice now? Piles of cash.
That's why we are so screwed. The honest little man (or corporation) can't be heard over the piles of cash being dropped from the ceiling.
And in the intelligence community, "open source" means a publicly available source of information.
Since it's almost a requirement that you're an addle minded bozo to be accepted in politics, it's could be he has a number of meanings of the term wrapped up together.
for the same reason your boss wants an iPhone instead of an Android-based phone... too many people are stuck on brand names. When an brand name gets attached to a story, holy mother of God suddenly it's important.
I think a related question is what is the value-per-patent?
Microsoft might be getting tons of patents, but if most of them are about web-enabled toilets that send alerts when not flushed or other stupid technologies then maybe Google is ahead.
All your post did was accuse me of being a liburul based on one opinion. My opinion had nothing to do with left vs. right and it's just typical knee jerk garbage... I
I don't like the use of the word "intoxicating" in this sense, because it technically means the ingestion of a foreign (or TOXIC) substance to give one a feeling of euphoria. Music is a non-physical way to get your body to release dopamine.
Similarly I don't sex would be considered "intoxication" either.
Congratulations. You just won today's Glenn Beck Memorial Word Twisting award, presented to those people with the special talent of turning every comment in a Left vs. Right slamfest. Please get your prize, a full lobotomy, in room 3G.
Maybe rich Americans give to charity in an attempt to buy their souls back.
Anyway... I remember in the 90s that it was commonly known in the tech communities that Bill Gates gave less to charity (by percentage) than a welfare mom. Because it was so well known I always thought that the Gates foundation was partially for P.R. That doesn't lessen the good they have done and I think has been more and more about really helping people as Gates has gotten older.
Many people simply assume that he has to be smart in order to have created Microsoft and made so much money. In a way, they are correct, but it doesn't necessarily mean he was the smartest technically, which is what also many assume.
I think if you got together many of the technical thinkers of our time and asked them who the 20 best computer innovators were, Gates would have a hard time on that list (as well as Jobs) and it would be filled with people whom the average guy would never have heard of. Gates' real accomplishment is being able to take other people's ideas, dumb them down, and give people a wink and a nod to make people think they are his without really lying.

No, because our highest levels of government here are captured too.
How are we sure Slashdot hasn't been hacked.
Go ahead and mod this down, karma be damned... this is disconcerting.
But oddly, despite everything you have said, preferable to the old fart who chose a running mate based on her bra size. Go figure.

Great logic. Problem is that the Peter Principle has promotes every simpleton who can't use login into a place of power.
Do I sound frustrated? It's because I am. The world, especially the corporate world, gets more and more illogical every day.
DIE IN A FIRE!
Jerks. The corporates are all jerks that hate their customers.
Really? The same bad boss I had thought Microsoft could do no wrong simply because of their brand name and how much money they have made...

Yeah.. seems kind of odd all the screaming heads angry about "regulation" have no problem with patents...
